Pictures have not been a problem because the members of rec.pets.cats.*
stay on top of it. However it would be a good idea to put it in the
charter. Here's my standard response to, " Can I post pictures here?"

Your pictures are welcome in news:alt.binaries.pictures.animals . Please
tag them with the correct species [dog], [cat], [kitten] etc. Do post a
pointer in the newsgroup you frequent. If you put the message ID of the
picture in your pointer in the form news:M-ID, double clicking it will
cause most newsreaders to go online and search for it without the user
needing to subscribe to the binary group.

It would be nice to have a place for pure breeds, but the newsgroup
community is already too diluted by the 7 other rec.pets.cats newsgroups
that I wish there were fewer of them, not more. it's easy to search by the
breed name. for example, I always search for any discussions relevant to
"Korats" and have little trouble finding it because the breed name is so
unique.

There are also far too many adoption, and cat startup websites many of which
are abandoned half way through the effort. It's a shame there is not an
"ebaY" for pets where all of use can come together. petfinders is the
closest you can get to a large pet site, the rest are updated and visited
too infrequently to be of any help.

I think there should only be 3 newsgroups period;

rec.pets.cats.care+products <-- all care related issues, vets, diet, meds,
life cycle. makers and consumers of all cat related products for review,
comparison, feedback.

rec.pets.cats.adopt+breed <-- where breeders&rescue meet buyers&adopters,
legal, moral, social issues related to cats, and breed specific
discussion/comparison, business aspects of adoption agencies, home breeding,
breeding farms.

rec.pets.cats.petting-zoo <-- anecdotes, misc, but well moderated for
children's use with zero tolerance for Adult SPAM posts, and disturbed
posters.
