Hello, I'm Christine from Pa. I have a cat
( Lucy ) and I'm also 6 monhts pregnant, I've heard the danger in
cleaning litter boxes and pregnancy...does anyone know anthing about
this?

She has never been outside, BUT she has been around my moms cats who ARE
in and outdoor cats....
But Lucy never even caught a mouse...

My main question is this: they say handleing raw meat is REALLY bad
during pregnancy too....BUT with common sense you wash your hands.....
is that the same deal with cats...like if you change the litter box then
wash you hands its ok?
because i've scooped the box 2 or 3 times WITH gloves on then washed my
hands with antibacterial soap...do you think that is ok?
My husband is doing it ow to avoid any problems....

I am an animal lover...I have a pet grooming shop and groom pets for a
living ....;-)))
so getting rid of my cat is OUT of the question...but i know a NON
animal lover will make it seem WAY worse that it really is....

any in-put?

Thanks in advance......

Chrstine....( all snowed in..)

You're doing the right thing.
FWIU, simply cleaning the box daily with gloves on, then following up
with an antibacterial soap is sufficient.
http://web.vet.cornell.edu/Public/FHC/toxo.html

I am not an expert, however, so if the hubby is willing to scoop the
box, that is the safest thing to do.
You might also try one of those automatic litter boxes.

Asking this is alt.med.veterinary might yield more experienced answers.

In my opinion, you are NOT a cat lover.

About 20 minutes after the posting I am replying to know, you made another
one, where you asked if it was risky to spay and DECLAW your cat at the same
time! Cat lovers, people who understands how cats live and what they need to
be sound and healthy, don't even THINK of declawing their cats. Declawing is
one of the worst ways you can mistreat your cat. Have you ever tried
scratching that tiny, itchy spot behind your ear without nails? I would
almost like to help you experience that...

Buy a claw clipper, I use that myself, and it works just fine.

Besides, most of the civilized countries in the world have banned declawing,
because of the suffering it leads to for the poor cat. Don't ever THINK of
declawing, and be sure not to mention it in this group any more!!

Wow...

Look at this mail SHE sent to ME (I never asked to reply to me by mail...):
--">>I would almost like to help you >>experience
-->> that...
--I've seen one too many cats splattered on the road from ppl like YOU
letting their cats outside...''I would almost like to help YOU --experience
THAT''
--DO NOT EVER THREATEN ME IN THAT ****ED UP GROUP AGING!

--AND DO NOT EMAIL ME!"

The mail speaks for itself, I think. If Christine ever reads this, she
should know that my cats are 100 % indoor cats, and are at no danger to be
killed by cars, coyotes or other hostile things...

Maybe we are "EXTREMELY RUDE", as Christine states, but we are indeed cat
lovers!

No, technically, "neutered" applies to both sexes.
Males are castrated. Females are spayed.
