My 2 year old Maine Coone doesn't purr out loud.
Just a slight rattle if I put my head to his body.
Is this normal for this breed?
Any ways to get him going if I can?

Some cats just purr quietly. Very individual.

Mine sounds like a motor running.....
he use to meow very quiet like he had lost his voice, but now he meows
louder.

I'm not certain that Tiger is a Maine Coon but I suspect he is. When he
purrs his breath rate doubles and his purr is very hard to hear.

Man! A rattle?! Maybe that *is* his purr? If not, I'd get him checked.

Hah. When I visited Eros at the shelter, he was in a kitty condo with another
cat. Eros' purr was so loud, and Shorty's so quiet, that when I was holding
Shorty by my ear with Eros at knee-height, I couldn't hear Shorty, just Eros
rumbling!

Sounds just like Isis her purr was audible at 15 feet but Fugazi
didn't have hardly any purr at all nor was she particularly vocal, I
reckoned both things were because she couldn't get a word in edgeways
with her noisy sister Isis
