This morning I found the remains of a young grackle - feathers, head, feet -
in the garage where the wild white kitten has been living. At first and from
a distance I thought it was maybe a shredded garbage bag or a crush
greenhouse six-pack. Upon slightly closer examination I realized I was
seeing a pile of disarrayed feathers and feared it might be the fledgling
robin that I rescued from the wading pool yesterday. But no, all the
feathers were black, and there was a long, black beak.
