I don't know how such good news can cause profuse tears, but my face is
proof that it does.

Congratulations to Brooke, she fought the good fight and won!

Too busy crying to whoop for joy. Because I know how much this
would mean to my mom who was indirectly involved in cancer research
most of her life.

It meant so much even back at then beginning to know that 'this is
going to be very difficult', but not that 'this is going to be
impossible'.

I'm trying to remember, how long has it been since she was first
diagnosed? And it was fairly far advanced even then.

She is such an amazing and strong young woman.

I'm so happy for all of you. Cancer is a heart-breaker and I'm so glad she
has beaten it.

I know, I can't believe how (relatively) easy this has been. When I was a
child the "C" word was equivalent to a death sentence.

Brooke was diagnosed with Hodgkins Lymphoma in the beginning of February
this year. The main mass was 8 - 9 centimeters wide and was wrapped around
her heart and aorta and pressing against her trachea and lungs. She had
been having problems running out of breath when she played softball for
almost a year before that (her pediatrician said that she was just "out of
shape" - give me a break, this was an "All Stars" softball player). It took
her collapsing on the field before the doctors took this seriously and a
single chest x-ray sent her instantly to Children's Hospital to begin being
tested.

The tests took about 3 or 4 days before they knew for sure what they were
dealing with. Then they started her on the most aggressive chemotherapy
available. When that was done they still weren't satisfied with how much
the mass had shrunk (56%), so they started radiation therapy. After waiting
for 3 weeks after that was finished they did another round of tests and
found that the cancer was gone. In total about 6 months from diagnosis to
cure. It's f'king AMAZING!

Please send a prayer to your mom for me thanking her for her contribution in
giving me back the life of my granddaughter.

Hugs,

CatNipped

I have friends that have never visited this group, don't know Usenet from
Google and don't care, that have kept up with Brooke's story through me.
What a pleasure it has been, spreading the good news.

She's had people cheering her on from all over the world, and now there is
hooraying and yahooing and all manner of celebrating, a happy ending-a life
for one who dives in head first and richly experiences what her abilities
allow her-she's smart and talented and beautiful-what a life she'll have.

She is also full of grace and dignity, the way she tolerated her medical
treatments, never sure of the outcome. She's very special and I'm glad you
shared her with us.

Thank you,
Karla

Oh Karla, what a beautiful tribute - I'm in tears again (and "good tears"
are SO nice to feel). If you don't mind I'm going to forward your note to
Brooke and her mom, Erin (my daughter). They will be so grateful to hear,
again, that people from all over the world care about her and are
celebrating with her.

Hugs,

CatNipped

Oh please do! She should be as happy as she can get without exploding!
Oh, and Sneaker typed that row of 1s at the top. He can't spell but he
