View Full Version : So I took my mom's cat with sore on right hind leg to vet today and...

It's back to the Tresaderm and Prednisolone. He also gave the cat a
shot of Depo Medrol. Since my mom can't admininster the pill orally, she
crushes it and puts it in the cat's food.

However, one new problem has arose. In an unrelated issue, ever since we
adopted the cat from a local shelter, she's had a little bump on her
abdomen. Four different (including the current one) had said it's
probably nothing. The general consensus was that it some fatty tissue or
possibly a hernia caused by her spaying operation (when she was 4 years
old). However, today, the vet was feeling around for quite awhile
underneath the area. He said he felt some tissue or mass internally
beneath the bump. He suggested a specialist look at it. He said they
might want to do a needle biopsy which would probably mean anaesthesia.

My feeling is that this might cause more problems. Since she's showing
no symptoms and is eating well and has no weight loss, we decided to have
him look at her again in a few weeks. Hopefully, all is well, and what
he felt may be some benign matter.

Several years ago, a vet told us that the cat needed dental work and
wanted to give her a cleaning, pull a few teeth, and do possible gum
surgery. I went for a 2nd opinion, and the vet said he saw no problem
with the teeth aside from some tartar and left it up to me as to whether
I wanted to have the cleaning done. His opinion was that even if all
the surgery the previous vet mentioned was really necessary, then a
veterinarian specializing in dentistry should do it.

In summary, my mom and I were a little shaken by the day's events, but
hopeful that all will be well.

If the cat is showing no symptoms of discomfort and the lump doesn't
change in size or appearance, it's probably fine to hold off on the
biopsy. It's hard to say for sure, but you do have to consider the kitty's
discomfort at seeing the vet, the risks of anesthesia, etc. But do keep
an eye on the lump, I'd say.
