I understand that cats communicate mostly nonverbally, and understand
much of Meep's body language, after years of living with her. I just
noticed a new one, and not sure what it means.

It's a stare, quick head shake, then look away.

Example here:

Watch her right after I say "no".

This is an old video. I didn't even note that it was a meaningful
behavior, until a couple of mornings ago. She was out of food, but I
don't feed her till after my shower. I was standing in the bathroom
when she came to the doorway, stared at me for a moment, then did that
little headshake, looked away then wandered off. It looked very
deliberate, and immediately reminded me of the little video.

Any thoughts on what she's trying to say?

It certainly looks like she knows what the word, "No", mean, doesn't it?
As to what the shrug means, I can only speculate.
I think it's Meep's way of shrugging.

What do you think Jodie?
