BM update

I briefly mentioned in another thread that the deal for the Camry
didn't go through. I think, more than anything else, it was the dealer
stalling trying for a better deal. I don't have the best of credit,
having gone through bankruptcy, and the dealer said that the bank they
normally dealt with refused to finance me. So, I went to my own bank
and asked how much they could loan me for the Camry. The loan officer
said that with my history with their bank (I've banked with them since
'82 and have borrowed from them a couple times in the past), I would
have no problem getting a loan, but they could make a better deal if I
bought one of their repos. I went and looked over their cars, and one
was a 05 Nissan Altima, same year as the Camry, with 10,000 fewer
miles, better overall condition and over $3000 less. To be fair to
the Camry, it did have a lot more bells and whistles, but really
nothing I would ask for if I was looking to buy a new car - stuff like
power seats and a fancier stereo. So with the Nissan from the bank I
would have a smaller down payment, smaller monthly payments, and end
up paying less for what I think is a better car. So, since Monday I've
been driving my new old car. Picked up the title today, and got the
vehicle registered with the state and a post decal so I can drive onto
post without having to be pulled over at the gate.

Neighbor cat update

Good news is that Gray Kitty has decided I'm not such a bad guy. He's
coming over three or four times a week to eat here, instead of 3-4
times a month. Also, he's not hissing at me, and actually lets me pet
him without threatening to amputate something. Course that might end
if I try petting before feeding him, but it's a definite improvement
from the hissing I used to get. Last night he was actually rubbing
against my leg as I put out food. More good news is that he's getting
along well with Frank and Little Sister. They all gather around the
first bowl I put down and start chowing down. Course when I put the
second bowl down they all run over and check it to see if the food is
better, and again with the third bowl. Eventually everyone settles
down to their own individual bowls once they're satisfied that the
food is the same in each.

Bad news is that Frank's foot hasn't healed. I noticed today that it
is starting to swell up again. So any purrs for his foot will be
appreciated.
Aby have a pee. (He also peed on the floor in the vet office, and on one of
my t-shirts this morning. So his bladder is right as rain!)

This time he had a slightly elevated temp. of 103 and some liquid was
draining from his left ear. Doctor gave shot of cephalexin and sent me along
with a supply of capsules. She said he will improve very slowly.

He was navigating a bit better in the park and seemed to enjoy being out in
"the wild" again. He stuck his front paws in a babbling brook. He responded
to being petted by arching his back up into my hand. He had his tail
standing straight up, and he head-butted me once or twice, lightly. He
talked a lot more than usual, and the third eyelid is starting to go back
where it belongs.

Hard to understand how Dr. Johnson missed the ear thing yesterday.... but
maybe he didn't
:(
It's time to retire the boys' old scratching post, and I'm looking for a new
want a post with any carpet on it anymore. The cats have pulled the carpet
out of the base of the old one, so it looks just hideous. And there are
always those little tufts of carpet floating around the floor. But I was
surprised that I can't seem to find any posts with *no* carpet at all on
them-- like covering the base.

Do any of you have a carpet-less post? Where did you get it?

I left him in his bed for the night with a litterbox next to it. This
morning I found him in the room with the rest of the litterboxes, one of
which sported a long unburied poop which I assume was his, and a few wet
spots on the floor. He must have fallen over into one of them because his
whole left side was wet.

He was curled up against the door to the storage room, sleeping. He
responded to my voice. I gave him a "bath" with a damp washcloth. He seems
to have about the same degree of uncoordination as last night, and the inner
eyelids are still covering most of both eyes.

It's pretty clear that he's had a stroke. What I'd like to know is, what
needs to be done to help him recover from it? Can he recover? Do cats
recover to anything like their prior condition when they've come to this?
