toys and water by Brenda
Max sometimes dunks his toys in his water dish. I'm aware that this is a Birman trait, so I'm not surprised. But yesterday he did something puzzling... He came over to the heat grate, toy in his mouth, and held the toy over the grate for a while before batting it across the floor. A little bit...

Rachel the parakeet died by jmcquown
She was 12 years old. Persia kept going up to the cage and peering at the bird over the last couple of days. I thought she was just trying to hassel Rachel; turns out she knew something was up. I found Rachel at the bottom of the cage this afternoon. Jill

Sabrina scared the *?%@& out of me last night by Debra Berry
I have four kitties, Sabrina being the youngest, the most persistant, and the one who is always into something. She is over a year now, but tiny because she was rescued with a cleft palate and didn't have good nutrition before we found her. She loves to sneak out the front door when it opens up to...

Latest on The Dust by TJ and The Dust
TED finally called with the thyroid tests today. They came back A-OK. So his thyroid is good, his kidneys are good, his liver levels were elevated, his eye isn't healing up, he lost a tooth, he has a galloping heart beat and high blood pressure. Could just be heart disease. Not much we can do....

I'm thankful for... by GracecatOnl
The fact my husband spends much of his time on the road without injury or incident. That even accident victims can sometimes count on a miracle. I'll have enough money to splurge selfishly, enough food to waste without thought. (spoken with a mild amount of shame) Mutt is a very healthy senior...

I found a picture by Karen
in article , Mark Edwards at wrote on 11/26/03 9:46 PM: Many years ago, I took a picture of Presto, when he was about two years old. It was a classic "Chessie pose" - he was lying down asleep, his head on my pillow, the blanket...

Lester: Wednesday Update by Arthur Shapiro
Just spoke to the surgeon. Lester is allegedly looking better than yesterday. No indication of discomfort after 30 hours off the painkillers. The liver tests came back and showed "slightly" elevated levels of whatever it is they measure. Whether that's the start of a eventually fatal trend, or...

Lester: Tuesday Progress by Arthur Shapiro
Just got back from 40 minutes with the poor guy. His last painkiller was at 4am this morning, and he was much more alert tonight. He still doesn't look very good, but was certainly less zonked out than yesterday. I could feel him, but not hear him, purring, and he seemed very happy to receive...

Gizmo TED Report by Lucy's Mom
I used this method (crushing the meds up and mixing it in a baby syringe) with Miss Lucy when she was younger and it worked pretty well. I had trouble holding on to her, though, until I knelt on the floor and put her between my legs. Then she couldn't get away from me so easily and I had both...

Lester: Monday Update by Arthur Shapiro
Just talked to the surgeon. Lester has violently resisted most attempts to make him eat, meaning it's been about 6 days now. They've stuck a tube through his nose and are feeding some sort of high-caloric liquid. The assertion is that the tube is little more than a thread and consequently...

ATTN: LIZ! by jmcquown
I saw you were taking a break, but I was seriously about to post this to your attention. I got your holiday card! And Persia FREAKED over the enclosed kitty fur. Her eyes got HUGE, nose was twitching like a rabbit's and she tried to bat the fur out of my hand. Uh, I hope your needed...

Pics: Nikki in the snow by Marina
Well, we had a lot of snow yesterday, and today Nikki wanted to go for her usual Sunday walkies. This time, I took the camera along. She doesn't seem to mind the snow at all, she just plows ahead without that typical one-step-shake-paw-second-step-shake-paw business, but she didn't want to stay...

Northern VA cat sitter rec? by Christopher Havlicek
Greetings fellow cat staff - I'm trying to find some time to visit my parents in NY for Christmas, and the person that usually can watch my fur kids may be unavailable. I was wondering if anyone here from Northern Virginia, USA (around Fairfax) might be able to recommend a cat sitter or service...

I had to buy more envelopes too... I...

Gizmo is at TED by Gizela
Well, I left Gizmo at TED this morning (there is a vet here at work, I drop her off at 8 and pick her up at 4 and the vet calls me over when she has her consult). Naturally I felt sad leaving her over there but she didn't seem at all perturbed. There was a white cat in the cage next to hers who she...

Bald ear by Karen
Pearl's right ear had a very little bald spot earlier this week. Today it has trippled in size. I will be taking her to the vet as soon as I can get in this week. There is no scabbing or redness. I had not thought it was from scratching because of that. I do think that ear is itching her. Anyone...

Playing with 28 Kittens by Bev
Took four friends and cameras out to Lois's place to-day. There were kittens climbing through pipes, scaling tall kitty trees, swooping through cardboard boxes and brown paper bags and kittens climbing all the interesting human trees. Took a whole roll of photos - kitties are so hard to catch in...
