Spot-On - Time to work for ear mites? by MaxMom
Hi - I'm new here and need all the wisdom I can get for my Max. (I also have Baby, but she's not suffering as badly). Max has had ear mites for quite some time and I tried Baby oil and cotton swabbing them, but after a month there was no difference and they had gone to his tail causing hair loss....

What age is geriatric? by Rhonda
At what age would you call a cat a senior cat? We have a 10 year old that I'd love to continue to think of as a kitten. I was thinking though, it might be time for senior blood tests. Rhonda

Grrrrr by Niel Humphreys
I've had a local stray hanging around for the last few months and it's always got scars and scabs around it's head and face. Obviously was someone's pet as he will let me pet him although never stay too close, my other cats don't mind him either when he joins them for food. This morning I got up...

Kitten swallowed latex teat by Lynne
I just adopted a 4 week old kitten who has been hand raised. Today he chewed off and swalled half of the latex teat while nursing. I am trying not to freak out, but am very concerned. Has anyone here had an experience like this? Could this block his intestines? Is there anything I can do? So...

Putting my cat down by Stacia
Hi all. For a while now I've posted occasionally about my cat Spam, who's about 15 years old now, and has CRF, cardiomyopathy, and was born with cerebellar hypoplasia. Spam hasn't been able to walk very far for a few years now, he doesn't play and pretty much all he has done is sit in his...

Revolution for cats by Lynne
The new vet thinks the cats should be on Revolution instead of FrontlinePlus and Interceptor. It would certainly be simpler and less expensive, but I hate to fix something that isn't broken. The vet only suggested this because Revolution covers ear mites. This doesn't concern me since they...

How do other cat's & Humans cope with the summer heat & climates by sheelagh
We have a large patio door in our living room, which we leave open all day so that we do get a bit of breeze IF there is any to be had. Other than that, the rest of the windows in our house have to remain closed for fear of the cats getting out, & either lost, hurt or never seen again.. I know that...

SHOULD I TAKE HIM TO A VET? by u
Many of the people in these usenet pets groups work in Veterinarian Clinics, which makes them biased. In my city of Tucson, Arizona it is very difficult to find a Vet that will agree to reduced cost services, or even payment plans to low income pet owners, regardless of the circumstances. Their...

Oops..I lost my temper dammit by mystro
I'm a new first time cat owner who adopted a nice 1 year old male who for the most part is very happy and contented but certainly likes to push the limits. Not knowing better,I allowed the cat to roam mostly wherever it wanted when it first came home but now he wants to get in the way in the...

Elvis Update :( by ElvisRocks
I just got back from my vet & thankfully, my "real" vet was there but it's really bad news. He could feel tumors on his kidney and said by the bloodwork he appears to be in kidney failure. He kept him to put him on IV's and take xrays, etc. He's lost 1.3 lbs. in only 9 days. I can go visit...

Cat chewing on computer cables and power cords by [email protected]
We came home the other night and our lamp wouldn't turn on. We found it unplugged and thought - OH isn't that strange. Until we plugged it in and try to turn it on again and it sparked. We found this label all torn up (it was a warning label that went around the cord to the lamp). So was tossed...

Because she's such a tenacious troll, I thought Mary deserved some research on my part while I'm waiting for my project to compile. Mary has posted around 1,590 posts since January 1st, 2005. I've been through around 590 posts (with my extremely clever program to cull Google newsgroup results)...

scooting by John Doe
Kitty, my 15 pound young male cat was in the litter box as usual. This time, as he exited the closet where the litter box is kept, he scooted his butt on the floor for about 2 feet, leaving a skidmark. He scurried across the floor and did the same thing again. I was a little surprised/alarmed by...

Early age neutering? by Nadine
A very good friend of mine who has taken over running our local shelter decided to try EAN (?). She asked me what I thought of it and since I have had no personal experience with it (my vet/boss doesn't believe in it) I told her what I had heard from people in these groups. Some here have said...
