Older cat breathing problems by
Patty
I have an older cat who just turned 19 this month. He gradually began
developing some breathing problems over the last few months. It appears
that he can no longer purr, but wheezes instead. I took him to the vet a
few months ago, they x-rayed his lungs and said that they were fine and
showed no...

Older cat defecating by where she eats by
Mike
We feed our cats (3 - adult mail, young adult female, 19+year old female,
all spayed/neutered) on a window box in the kitchen. Over the last several
weeks our oldest cat has been defecating at the base of the window box,
mostly in the same spot (we have 3 boxes, scooped once - twice a day).
She's...

OLDER CAT EATING NEW KITTEN'S FOOD by
JGreenfield
I see this board is getting hit with a lot of "off-topic" messages :-
(. Anyway, I have a ten year old female cat. We just recently
brought home a 3 month old female kitten. At first there was lots of
hissing and slapping by the older cat. We kept the kitten quarantined
to our bedroom during...

older cat getting litter box trained. by
Stephen
I finally convinced my parents that it would be advisable to make our
family cat an "inside cat" as they live in an area that has lots of
dogs and even a couple of cayotes. BUT, I cannot get this 6 year old
cat to use the little box. When I train a kitten to use the box, I
know to just put in some...

Older cat holding down the younger one? by
J.G.
I have a question that I'm hoping someone knows the answer to! I
apologize in advance for the long-winded explanation.
I have two cats - one is a 5 year old domestic medium hair, and the
other is a 9 month old Ragdoll. They get along great, and the younger
arrival has definitely improved the...

Older cat ill....vet "puzzled" Any thoughts?? by
[email protected]
My neutered DSH male indoor/outdoor cat seems a bit ill.
He's just 13, we live in a very rural area, and he has never
encountered another cat, nevertheless, he is up on all shots, rabies,
leuk, etc.
In the past several months, he seemed to have lost weight and was
having trouble jumping. Took...

Older cat meowing at night !! by
S.S.
My cat is 15 yrs old and in the last few months has begun meowing
loudly for no apparent reason. For the past year and half he has been
on thyroid medication and his levels appear to be under control, the
vet hasn't found anything else wrong with him and says that it might
be related to his...

Older cat not using litter box all the time by
Andy Cuffe
I'm having trouble with my 18 year old female cat only using the
litter box about 99% of the time. That last 1% is getting very
unpleasant!
This has been developing for several years, so I don't think it's a
health problem such as a UTI. She sees the vet regularly and is
displaying no other...

Older cat pooping in house & generally not grooming self by
[email protected]
Hi,
We have a 16 year old cat, who up til recently always went outside to
"do his business".
However recently he's started to poop inside the house.
He's quite an elderly cat, he's certainly not as sprightly as he used
to be - he's also blind which doesn't help!
Also, his fur has started to mat...

older cat refuses to use litterbox by
Jason Travis
We have a total of four cats and three litterboxes. I have read and been
told that you have to have a seperate one for each cat, but I have witnessed
the three younger cats mixing and matching. The oldest one *used* to use
the litterbox.
She is around eighteen years old -- used to be hell on...

We have three cats, the oldest is 9 years old and sleeps much
more than the two younger cats. Is is normal for older cats

Older Cat Vomiting Issue by
Carol A
My 13-14 year-old cat Abby is having trouble keeping her food down. It's not
a constant problem, but it's a messy one. It comes up almost immediately
after eating and is usually barely digested, so I don't even know if it's
made it to her stomach. I've tried cutting her portions back to 1/4 cup...

Older Cat with a lot of new symptoms by
Rachel
My 18 year old cat has recently lost a lot of weight. I noticed today
that he hasn't been eating and he has begun to pee just outside his
litter box. His back legs seem unstable and he drinks a lot of water!
He's become much more lethargic, where he used to stay up all night a
meow at my husband...

Older cat with digestive problems by
jonathan
Hi,
I have a 7 year old Siamese named baggy. He chews on plastic bags and
throws up his food. I have tried many different diets with no luck. I
recently purchased pet grass (which has yet to grow). Any other ideas?
Thanks,
Jonathan

older cat with possible arthritis by
Glitter Ninja
I swear, when it rains it pours... just as we might be getting one
cat's conjunctivitis under control, another cat gets happy time with the
vet ;)
My cat Spam is about 13 years old. When he was a kitten, he had
apparently been left outside in the cold and it caused some damage in
his hind legs. ...

Older cat's behaviour by
Maria
Hi all,
My cat is about 16 years old. He's become very thin in the last year. A
few weeks ago, about the time we put up the Christmas tree, he stopped going
into the living room. It's the only area int he house with carpeting and he
used to sleep there all the time. He doesn't even go where...

Older Cat, New Kitten by
[email protected]
Hi folks,
Newbie here. I have a beloved older male cat, Dickson, who's about 12.
He's been on his own for about 3 years, since his mother died.
My girlfriend really wants to get a new kitten. We live in a large
loft, but there's really only one logical place for the existance of
litter boxes...

Older cat, puzzling set of symptoms ... thoughts? (long, sorry!) by
purpleprose
Hi all, it's my first post here on the boards. I just thought I'd post about my 14-year-old cat Sunny. It's quite a long story but I'll keep it as short as possible.
She's had pain in her legs for a while which several vets have put down to arthritis, which makes it very hard for her to climb or...

Older cats and arthritis by
Brian & Gina Bradtke
Hi all:
I have a 16 year old Siamese (Captain). He recently became very lethargic
(more than usual) and stopped eating and drinking and became severly
dehydrated. Took him to the Vet. She took x-rays and found he had a very
small fracture in his spine and some veterbrae were tearing away due...
