Do vets really care? by
Linda Hartley
My special friend is Yogi, 17 years old.
He has had 6 vets in his lifetime and each has been different in their
approach to diagnosing and treating any illness he has had.
I would just like to say that in his last days I have done a lot of soul
searching and net searching...latterly, hopelessly,...

Thyroid surgery by
Mary
Buddha's checkup today revealed that she is indeed hyperthyroid. The doctor
showed me how enlarged her thyroid is now. I'm kicking myself because
another vet saw this a year ago, but because her T3 levels were only
high-normal I did nothing. (Either I misunderstood what this doctor's
partner said...

cat exhibits strage behavior when playing with toy by
Rich[_2_]
We have two cats, both 10 year old neutered males. Indoor only, perfectly healthy. Zero medical history. Current on vaccines, etc. About a month ago we purchased a new toy. It's basically a mouse on a wire, and a wand. There's no catnip or any other attractant/stimulant on the toy. They go...

Need suggestions on a New food by
Mike
I have a 9yo neutered male cat that needs a food change. He's been on
Hill's Prescription Diet CD/S dry food (for struvite crystals/stones)
for about 7 years. He's always hungry but he doesn't like his food
anymore, he prefers eating the regular cat food. The vet said I could
try another brand for...

What kind of cat to get? by
Camilla Cracchiolo
My husband and I are about ready to look for new kitties after
Victor's death a few months ago. We know the basics, like not to look
for "lookalike" kitties...I was very disappointed with our other cat,
Ashley because she looked just like a greatly loved cat I had before
but wasn't the same in...

When do you "call it a day"? by
Eddy[_2_]
I would like to know various people's views on when one should "call it
a day" when a beloved pet has a very serious illness.
If increasing part of the medication to maximum level will give the
animal good quality of life for a large part of the day though in the
end the side-effects of that large...

My cat had an accident - I'm sick with worry! by
Calico
I live on the third floor of an apartment block and yesterday I didn't
close one of the windows properly. Next thing I realise that I hadn't
seen puss in a while so I went looking for her when I noticed she had
pushed it open and jumped out onto concrete. I ran down and managed to
get her back...

Do cats have a high pain tolerance by
Al Kondo
I have two 7 month old cats who are health and very active.
Sometimes when they chase themselves around the house, they sometimes
bump themselves on a chair or table leg with a resounding "thunk".
Yet, they don't even seem to break stride. If I were to engage a
piece of furniture with the same...

Fix Matted Fur? by
Claude V. Lucas
Well, I haven't posted in here for awhile.
Those who might remember my infrequent postings might also
remember Bubba the Maine Coon.
Unfortunately, Bubba has crossed the bridge due to complications
from advanced cardiomyopathy. It's strange to admit, but losing
him hit me harder than the past...

Can cats get pimples? by
Zorin the Lynx
This recently showed up on my cat's chin, and I'm just wondering if I
should be concerned and schedule a vet trip, or if it's the equivalent
of a pimple and will go away soon:

Any ideas? Sorry for the poor quality of the shot; it's hard to hold a
cat...

Which prescription diet best for chronic constipation/lazy bowels? by
Devlin Tay
My 1.5 year-old male tabby recently had a bad bout of constipation. Toby
did not poo for over two days and a vet check-up found a substantially
distended colon. The vet immediately put him on Propulsid (bowel stimulant)
and Duphalac (lactulose syrup) but he still refused to poo for another...

Another cat saved by declawing. by
He Who Walks
My cat (DQB) had been tearing up my furniture (as well as my patience)
by clawing everything, particularly when I would have to be being out
of town for two or three days at a time.
My friends Ken and Kathy told me about the success they had with
declawing their equally destructive cat so I...

Peeing on couch - time to lock him up? by
korey99
Hey all-
I've read here a suggestion to stop cats from peeing in inappropriate
places is to lock them in a small room with a litterbox to retrain
them. I'm thinking this is what I have to do, but I wanted to know
whether I should put his kitty friend in there with him. She's not
exhibited any...

Can you help us get our cat in the carrier? We tried to get her to the
groomers b/c she has matts (she's a long-haired beauty), but after 3 hours

cat proof toilet paper holder? by

Someone told me they saw a toilet paper holder with a cover in a catalog

another is trying to get it off the shelf I'm currently storing it on. I
tried turning so it won't roll out and then she gets so frustrated...

Saving Money on Advantage Flea Control for Cats - Buy Dog Size by
John Samstron
Bayer, the company that sells Advantage, a good and safe drug for
controlling fleas had a problem.
The problem is this -- they make and sell the drug in only one
concentration -- 100g/litre or 9.1% concentration. Much more of the
drug is needed for big dogs than for small cats. A big dog needs...

Update - Hushpad, bad news by
KellyH
Why, oh why, can't people follow directions?
The family that adopted Hushpad also have a lab (dog, not chemistry lab). I
really did not forsee a problem with Hushpad and a dog, particularly a
large, friendly one. Plus, the people went on about how they would probably
never meet anyway, as the dog...
