Update on our mid-summer adoption.. bad (long) by
Brian Link
To recap if you haven't read my earlier posts...
A stray had been frequenting our house for over a month. He was
flea-bitten, mite-infested and hungry, but obviously socialized to
humans because he was so friendly.
We were at the time owned by two cats; Tiger, 10 yr old, farm cat
mutt/maine coon...

Mary will be flattered by my survey by
Brian Link
Because she's such a tenacious troll, I thought Mary deserved some
research on my part while I'm waiting for my project to compile.
Mary has posted around 1,590 posts since January 1st, 2005.
I've been through around 590 posts (with my extremely clever program
to cull Google newsgroup results)...

Cats and Tylenol... by
Brian Link
I know aspirin is quite toxic for cats, but what about Tylenol?
As I've mentioned before, Louis fancies himself an alley-cat and likes
to eat inedible things (I almost want to get a stomach x-ray to make
sure there's no bolts or gobs of aluminum foil in there).
Tonight my wife was cleaning and...

Bengal: Fur on belly sparse? by
Brian Link
Our Bengal Louis seems happy enough. He's friendly, is eating, and
plays lustfully. He's had marking problems, but they seem to be under
control for the moment.
Tonight, however, I noticed that his underbelly, from about the last
rib to his hip, is not nicely spotted but only under-fur.
Is this...

Okay, Louis' inappropriate urination is stress-related by
Brian Link
We had Louis happily using all our cat boxes, and not peeing on doors.
My son's girlfriend has come to live with us, and he made one spray on
the original site (front closet door), but otherwise calmed down.
Then my mother-in-law came to visit, and we went from a 3-person
household (me, my wife...

New cat introduction - giving it another, better informed shot. by
Brian Link
When we tried adopting Henry, he was an aggressive stray tom whose
hormones were still kicking after being recently neutered. The
introduction went well for a few weeks, but after going too quickly
with the intro, and a major knock-down dragout with Louis (where Henry
was the aggressor) the...

New cat integration update - Megan's no help any more. Need info. by
Brian Link
Backstory: Chloe is a six year old spayed, declawed female. She's been
living with a fat, older neutered male and a Jack-Russel terrier
hybrid in an uneasy truce. She's relocated to Minnesota with her
owner, my son's girlfriend. The girlfriend will take the cat with her
when she goes to college...

Bi-polar cat? (declawed) by
Brian Link
I've been visiting Chloe, a six year old, spayed female moggie -
recently transplanted to our house. She is very friendly, coming
immediately to my lap and purring.
When I pet her, she squirms happily, but will suddenly hiss or lash
out. After a few seconds, she lets me pet her again.
At first I...

Cat update: Louis the ****er, Chloe the man-hater by
Brian Link
Louis has been corralled - he no longer pees inappropriately. This has
gone on about five+ weeks now. The main problem has been a rogue cat
in our neighborhood, regular outside walks so Louis can familiarize
himself with this cat's scent, and a ton of stimulation for Louis to
keep him occupied.
As...

Wet food conversion complete by
Brian Link
Tiger was pretty dang ****ed - he ran around downstairs, while we were
in bed, and knocked down everthing heavy that he could push. We lost
two glasses and a bottle of beer. He rattled the recycling bag, and
pounded the door like a prizefighter.
Louis, on the other hand, was totally indifferent to...

How much I love Tiger.. by
Brian Link
Tiger's a farm-cat. He lived in a feral colony in rural Indiana, and
one summer my son, visiting his relatives, aged 5, picked him out as
a cat we should get to know.
We made the trip to collect my son and his new cat after a long
vacation. We took the scenic route up above the Great Lakes, and...

A note about cats aggressive to people by
Brian Link
Been reading a lot here lately, and one thing I thought I'd pass
along.
My brother brought a beautiful siamese home from Italy. The poor kitty
vanished when his plane landed, and for a week we thought it was gone.
He was very sad.
I got a call from a gal with a thick Texas accent who asked "Did...

Tom's Story (not safe for cat-lovers, despite a happy ending) by
Brian Link
We adopted Tom and Abbey as littermates of an unplanned kitty
pregnancy.
Tom was a strapping big kitty. He and Abbey were both black cats, with
that touch of purple in their coats that hinted at a genetic beauty.
He loved to chase a ball and retrieve it for us to throw again. He was
a massive,...

Roy's Story by
Brian Link
This is a simple story.
Roy couldn't live wih his new owners because of allergies.
As friends of his owners, we agreed to adopt him.
His integration was simple, though he wound up low-cat on the totem
pole, there was absolutely no violence blending him into our multi-cat
household.

Abbey's Story Inot safe for cat-lovers) by
Brian Link
I can't write Abbey's Story.
We adopted her along with Tom, but she was the first cat I was with
when she died.
The vet ****ed up her IV, and on the fist blast she stumbled but
didn't die.
When she died, she just fell like a ton of bricks, with her tongue
out.

Kitty pics - Tiger & Louis by
Brian Link
I took these tonight for my Friday cat-blogging, and thought I'd just
post em here as well.
Here's Tiger, our Maine-Coonish farmcat

And here's Louis, the precocious Bengal, in a somewhat inelegant pose

Visiting Henry... by
Brian Link
I had to surrender Henry because I did not have the time to properly
integrate him into our two-cat household. Given the wildness of our
resident Bengal, it may in fact have been impossible to do so. With
Megan's help we found a permanent home for him, and I had a chance to
visit tonight, with my...

Goldangit - some people by
Brian Link
My son called me to say he was worried about his girfriend's cat.
Again. After what seemed like a pattern of poisoning incidents, the
identification of several cat-toxic plants in the house, and the
refusal to remove them, Max the cat hasn't eaten for three days and is
curled in a ball in the...

Your experiences with vet competence by
Brian Link
Megan used to go on about finding a decent vet, and surprised me with
how many vets are actually clueless and even dangerous.
As a simple consumer, I hadn't realized this was an issue. I mean,
these folks go to college, they get accredited, you would think there
would be uniformity in their...
