Duffy's 18th birthday by
MaryL[_2_]
Tomorrow is Duffy’s 18th birthday (possibly 17th). This is guesswork, of
course, based on the estimate when I adopted him. I adopted him on Jan. 31,
2003, and he would now be 17 or 18 if the estimates of 3 veterinarians at
the time were correct. I arbitrarily chose his adoption date as his...

Duffy's 3rd Adoption Anniversary by
MaryL
Today is the 3rd anniversary of Duffy's adoption, and what happy years they
have been! Duffy is a true delight, a wonderful, bright, active, loving
little cat. While browsing through some files last week, I came across a
message I posted on Jan. 27, 2003 just after I had made the decision to
adopt....

Duffy's 4th annifursary (long) by
MaryL
Tomorrow (Jan. 31) is the fourth anniversary of the day I adopted Duffy. It's
hard to believe that four years have gone by, and he is a true treasure. He
is the dearest, sweetest, most wonderful little guy I could ever imagine.
Most of you already know that Duffy has been blind since birth,...

Duffy's 6th annifursary by
MaryL
Today is the 6th annifursary of the day I adopted Duffy. He was estimated
to be 3-5 years old at the time, and we suspected it was toward the upper
end. So, he is probably about 10 or 11 years old now. I rather
artificially set Feb. 1 as his birthday because he was adopted on Jan. 31,
and...

Duffy's 8th furdoption day and 13th purrday by
MaryL
I just returned from vacation in Figi, Australia and New Zealand, so I will
send an "off-topic" message about that soon. However, this one is
definitely ON-topic. Duffy adopted me on Jan. 31, 2003, and we have now had
8 wonderful years together. He was estimated to be 3-5 years old at the...

Duffy's 9th furdoption day and 14th birthday by
MaryL[_2_]
My, how the years roll by. It’s hard to believe, but today is Duffy’s 9th
furdoption day. Three different veterinarians estimated his age at the time
as being between 3 and 5 years old. The director of the shelter thought he
was probably about 5 years old. Based on those estimates, he is...

Duffy's accident (NOT an injury...) by
MaryL
Duffy gave me a real fright this evening. This was one of the few times
when his blindness really "showed." I was sitting in a lounge chair
watching TV, and I happened to be holding the remove control upright in my
hand. Suddenly, Duffy leaped toward the arm of the chair (as he frequently...

Duffy's Day by
MaryL
I can't believe it...I actually let "Duffy's Day" go by unnoticed until I
read some "congratulations" on another group. Duffy adopted me on Jan. 31,
2003, so we have now had 7 wonderful years together. He was estimated to be
3-5 years old at the time, and probably closer to 5 years. So, that...

Duffy's physical exam by
MaryL[_2_]
Duffy had his physical exam today, and TED said it is *perfect.* He said it
is very rare for a cat of Duffy's age (16) to have test results like that.
He had stopped eating for awhile, but it turned out that he needed dental
work. Two molars were removed (and the rest of his teeth cleaned and...

Duffy's physical exam by
MaryL[_2_]
Duffy had his physical exam today. TED said Duffy "failed his vision
test" but everything else is great. (If any of you don't know Duffy's
background, he has been blind since birth. LOL. He is my little wonder
cat.) TED also said he has already outlived all of his compatriots and
also...

Duffy's visit to the vet by
MaryL[_2_]
I took Duffy to see TED for an evaluation on Monday. Everything looks
good except that he needed to have a cyst removed from his shoulder. I
had the cyst examined in January. At that time, I was told to keep an
eye on it and return to the veterinary clinic if it grew in size. It
did grow,...

Duffy's wonderful toy by
MaryL
As many you know, Duffy is blind and wonderful. He loves to play with small
toys, but doesn't toss them around as much as Holly does because he can't
see where it is going. He does like to toss and bounce little toys that
make some noise; he can easily continue to poune on them. Well,...

Duffy-in-a-sunbeam by
MaryL
Duffy loves sunbeams. Actually, most cats do, but Duffy will roll and play
for several minutes -- almost dance -- and then finally curl up for a nice
nap. I just posted 3 photos in alt.binaries.pictures.animals that show Duffy
playing in "his" sunbeam.

I spoke with him at length last night by using the Long Distance

short distance of the Veterans' Hospital there.

Dulce Mae is learning by
Mark Edwards
Dulce Mae is the one most beset with hairballs. Many times I have found
(and thankfully avoided stepping in) her hairballs. She usually leaves them
where they will be found. By stepping on them...
Now, I always make a point of telling her how much we would appreciate her
leaving them on an easy...

Dulce Mae is trying to kill me by
Mark Edwards
Last week, I was picking Dulce Mae up, when a neighbor made scary
noises. Dulce Mae used my wrist as a launch pad.
Just for the record, the picture looks a lot worse than it is - I
took this with my camera phone. The scar is actually healing...

Dulce Mae likes her new toys by
Mark Edwards
And I haven't even unpacked them yet.
For some time, I have been bemoaning the fact that the company from whom I
bought (matching) bookshelves has gone out of business and that the number
of books ( mostly technical reference books) has not decreased.
I finally decided that I needed the...

Dulce Mae wants her bird back by
Mark Edwards
A couple years ago, I got a big rubber vulture for my 50th birthday. It
sits atop the tall bookcase in our bedroom, so it can eat us if we die.
Tonight I had to move a few things around on top the bookcase. This
involved moving the vulture to the bed, where Bucky and Dulce Mae rested.
Bucky...

Dulce Mae's first B*tard Cat Trick by
Mark Edwards
A couple of times this month, Dulce Mae has left hairballs in the hallway
just outside the dark bedroom door.
This time, she did one better: she left the squiggly rubber ball thingie
there instead. It looked like a hairball in the dark. Until you step over
it and into the REAL hairball.
Sort...
