[OT] Good luck in US Elections by
Yowie
For those of you in the USA, I hope today - Election Day - goes smoothly,
that there will be no hint of improper goings on, that the will of the
people is done, and that people vote with the best interests of their
country, and indeed, the world, in mind (and heart).
May the best (or least worst)...

[OT] Good News / Bad News by
CatNipped
The good news... My daughter got approved for a low-interest (2%) Small
Business Association loan for $120,000 ($90,000 for repairing the house and
$40,000 for furnishings).
The bad news... The SBA won't give her the money unless she has insurance on
the house, the insurance companies will not...

[OT] Good News Week tv show by
Yowie
Have any of you USA folks seen an Australian TV show called "Good News Week"
starring Paul McDermott, Mikey Robbins and Claire Hooper?
Just wondering because the above people were all wearing white poppies in
last night's show, but we don't observe Memorial day (or any other even when
wearing...

[OT] Google map's Street View by
Yowie
Almost all of Australia now appears in Google's "Street View".
Those of you who have my address are more than welcome to come for a walk
around my neighbourhood. Thankfully, I am not at my front door! But I can
tell you it was taken probably around about April, and it was somewhere
between 7am...

[OT] Goose Bumps! by
Pat
The first of my Blockbusters DVDs by mail have arrived, and I've got Neil
Young's "Heart of Gold" playing right now. He's doing the title song, and I
am covered with goose bumps from head to toe. I didn't expect it to be this
good, but WOW.
I can also "heart-ily" recommend "Walk the Line".

[OT] Got BP Knowledge? by
Pat[_3_]
I've searched all over the 'net for an answer and can't find it....
What is the effect of exercise on blood pressure? I mean, the
*immediate* effect... Like, if you run a mile or bicycle three miles,
does it raise the BP? If so, how long until it goes back to your
normal level?
Reason I ask is I...

[OT] Gotta do it somehow! by
Pat
As y'all know I'm working on raising $4500 so I can get into a better home
for the new year and beyond. Actually, wracking my brain for ideas on how to
do it without having to sell my car.
Toward that end I will extend an offer to anyone here that enjoys movies.
I've got about 400 good ones on...

[OT] Great Read by
CatNipped
OK, I don't usually read fantasy, but I love Tanya Huff (she wrote two great
books about a female master sergeant in the space marine corps - VALOR'S
CHOICE and THE BETTER PART OF VALOR (and hey, does anyone know if she came
out with any more in that series??)). So, I picked up and read SUMMON...

[OT] GTA:Vice City by
Yowie
For the first time, Joel has found a game for the XBOX that both of us love.
He loves the game play.
I love the soundtrack that comes with it.
Ok, I admit, I am a pathetic 80's addict. But the Grand Theft Auto: Vice
City game comes with approximately 8 'radio stations' which play
approximtley...

[OT] Guess the Google by
Yowie
You see a collage of 20 pictures, and have to guess the keyword someone
typed into Google to get those 20 images.
My beat score is a measly 189. Its addictive, and so far has been work safe.

[OT] Halloween ettiquette by
Yowie
Australia doesn't do Halloween.
Well, didn't.
The local kids have cottoned onto the fact that if they put on stupid
clothes and knock on people's doors, that some suckers will give them candy.
But, by and large, we still don't celebrate Halloween.
Thus we were quite unprepared for the knock on...

predict a working prototype by Christmas capable of powering facility lights
in the busiest areas of a city.

security, I can post new messages to Usenet but can't post replies. When...

[OT] Heatwave - 113F yesterday by
Yowie
Yesterday, New Years Day, temperature records were broken. It got to 45C
(113F) here, the previous record only 40C (104F) (remember, I'm near the
coast, which usually mitigates extreme temperatures).
I guiltily left the AC on for the critters and went to my parents place, who
also have AC. Poor...
