Icarus Going Back To The Vet by Cat Protector
It looks like Icarus may be going back to the vet for another possible urinary obstruction. I called the vet and left a message so hopefully I'll get a call back despite it being a Sunday. I've followed all of the vet's instructions and he gets canned food quite often every day and also gets...

Cats won't eat medicated food by Helene
One of my two cats has been urinating just outside the litter box, so the vet suggested they be tested for crystals in the urine. It seems they both have crystals, so the vet prescribed medicated food to help treat the crystals. I started feeding the food last night, and neither cat will eat it....

To neuter, or not, or something else? by [email protected]
I have an angel of a tomcat; he never sprays, never gets annoyed with me, waits in the window for my return from work and even plays fetch! I'm strict about keeping him indoors because there are several other apartment complexes near me (high-density human population) and more people means more of...

Declawing saved my cat's life, giving him 7 more years and saving the furniture as well. by [email protected]
My mother died in 1997. "Bunch" was 7 years old at the time. He had torn up most of the upholstered furniture at mom's and had some wellness issues as well. It was Mom's wish that someone take Bunch so he could live a full life. None of my other siblings (4 sorry selfish bitch sisters) wanted...

Went in for X-Ray, came out with dead cat by Mary
- First of all, I've found that it's a little on the extreme side to inject a cat with anesthesia for the purpose of taking a simple x-ray. I was told that it's more common to sedate them with an oral medication. Is this true, or is this a matter of personal preference at the vet? Some...

My cat like lasagna by whitershadeofpale
Jupiter likes lasagna, she also like popcorn (I break off the fluff for her) She's such an outgoing kitten. She is not scared of Lucy, she jumps at her. When I goto bed, Jupiter walks up to the side of the bed and cries till I tuck her in on my pillow.

Boycott anyone? by [email protected]
I can't even get through to the number for the recall. It just says circuits overloaded and has since the damn thing began. I'm really ****ed off, and I'm wondering if there would be any sense in trying to organize a boycott of any companies that do business with Menu Foods?

Calming drugs by Cheryl
I don't want to think this but I really think it is time for drugs for Shamrock. He is just the most obnoxious cat and I don't know what to do. Shadow spends all the time that I'm home terrified of him, so he sticks close to me. (they are separated when I'm at work) If he doesn't, he gets backed...

Picking a new vet by Warren O
Hi, I've never had to look for a veterinarian. Now that our Georgia has CRF, we would like to find one closer to us, possibly one that has weekend hours, too. What questions do you ask when looking for a vet, or is it all trial and error? Word of mouth would be a good place to start, but most of...

Advice please? by Dooies B.B
Sorry to cross post but I have a bit of a dilema. My cat is now 15 and a half, and although she still eats, drinks, toilets, and sleeps, she does little else. I know she has some discomfort from her lower back, and probably kidney problems. Other than that and her increased laziness she seems...

euthanasia - anything I should know? by Gary Warner
Hello - I'm a somewhat frequent Usenet user, but never here. My parents have a cat that it's now time to put to sleep. He's about 14 years old and over the last month (or less) has ballooned up with fluid in the abdomen. The vet did a blood test (negative for any diseases) and then an...

Cat doesn't want to stay indoors by Miner At The Dial-A-View
Looking for some advice concerining my 15 year old (that's OAP status, right?) cat here... Over the last couple of months my cat has spent as much time as she possibly can outdoors and is really reluctant to stay indoors. It's got to the point now where she comes into the kitchen for food...

Steatitis by S. Gass
*** *** PLEASE NOTE - squeamish individuals may not want to read past the second paragraph *** Our 12 year old male DSH Bubba has steatitis, possibly as a result of eating salmon & tuna flavored food from a well-known manufacturer. The vet says that it's more likely due to Bubba being unable to...

How do you pick out a cat by Bill
My two cats died this year and I am still pretty sad about that. Someone suggested that in looking for a cat I should get a mature one - so I could have some idea of personality - and that seemed like a good idea. I went over to the local PetSmart where they have some in cages up for adoption. I...

Which are smarter ? by Knack
Well, here we go again ;-) We know they're not as obedient, but are cats as smart or smarter than dogs? Surely, you folks who own both must have some insights about this. And which of the cat breeds are the smartest? Shouldn't the nonbreeds generally be smarter?
