Everybody likes kitty pictures.. my troublesome brood by
Brian Link
Thought I'd post some pics.
To recap, Tiger is an 11-yr old farm cat we saved from coyotes (Maine
Coon lookalike). Louis is our first breeder-bought cat, a two year-old
Bengal. Henry is a 2 yr old stray we adopted whose murder Louis
plots constantly.
First pic.. we got Louis as a kitten, and...

Louis **** remediation, Day 1: by
Brian Link
Bought a Feliway diffuser yesterday, and suspect doors are all open.
No spraying incidents since then. I'm not satisfied yet that this will
cure all - but it's encouraging.
Took Louis to the vet today. The vet said he looked ridiculously
healthy, and got a urine sample. Sample looked fine, so we...

Loving cats <> taking care of cats by
Brian Link
This is just a freeform musing occasioned by several recent events -
1. Tammy Quist's homepage slogan "She will never know freedom, can she
at least know compassion?" (http://www.wildcatsanctuary.org/index.htm)
2. The decision to find another home for Henry even though I loved him
3. The "hard...

Louis **** remediation - part II by
Brian Link
Bought another diffuser and put it downstairs near the prime spot he's
been marking. Did another big clean-up, though I'm worried that stuff
has seeped down past the flooring into the floorboards. Using an
enzymatic cleaner, but the animalark website suggests a cleaner called
"Force". Perhaps we'll...

Good God - Louis' peeing is out of control by
Brian Link
Had to keep the basement door closed while we fixed the plumbing
downstairs - that's where the litterboxes are. We brought one
upstairs.
Fixed the plumbing, basement is open, Louis is acting totally psycho.
This just appeared out of nowhere, and its first indication was a
couple weeks ago.
He is...

Feeding cats Sushi? by
Brian Link
I've been reading the benefits of feeding cats real meat (which makes
sense, since they're not as omnivorous as dogs). It occured to me that
perhaps a nice treat for our cats would be a little chunk of salmon or
tuna bought at our local Sushi bar.
Are there any considerations I should use in...

Butt-Scooting in a healthy cat by
Brian Link
Tiger is pretty healthy (11-year old moggie, Maine-Coon-like genes).
Good, premium food, clean litterboxes..
But tonight he came up from downstairs and did the whole "squat and
pull myself with my forearms" that suggests a problem with his butt.
This is what Henry did when he had worms and...

Alternatives for dental care? by
Brian Link
Okay, I've tried supposed plaque-fighting treats. No go. I've tried
the fingertip toothbrush. No go. I've tried a real toothbrush. One cat
actually liked it, but that's because we adopted him from a Dentist,
who brushed his teeth every day. lol.
I'm mostly concerned about Tiger, a ~12-yr-old. His...

No more whining: Three Happy Cats by
Brian Link
Dropped off Henry tonight. He was thrilled, zooming around the house
with his tail up, finding all the little treats and surprises his new
host prepared for him, "cheeking" the furniture. If that's the last
time I see him, it will be a good memory.
After the subsequent meltdown in the car, it...

Our household update (new cat.. way too long introduction) by
Brian Link
I keep meaning to call Meghan but we are so incredibly swamped we
hardly have time to say hi to each other in our household, let alone
set an appointment. I'll be calling her this week.
Henry is drilling in as one of my favorite cats of all time (the
1-yr-old stray we adopted). He has a Nerml...

How much to feed a cat.? by
Brian Link
As I've mentioned before, our stray Henry is pretty big. He's a
long-haired cat, so he looks even bigger than he really is, but he is
overweight. http://frontpage.visi.com/~blink/images/Henry%20005.jpg
(to give scale, each tile that he's laying on is about 14 inches)
Because of his isolation in...

Henry in the Snow by
Brian Link
Our chubby Maine-Coon-Clone loves the snow! He spent a half hour
outside, and jumped on my lap afterward in love.
Now he sits by the door, and will drag his leash to me to let me know
he loves going outside.
Despite the problems in our home getting the cats to mix, at least I
have the...

Cat Addiction: Chapter 199 by
Brian Link
One of the many definitions of addiction is "doing things repeatedly
that are known to cause you pain". Like adopting new cats...
So we adopted Henry the pitiful stray, expecting him to be integrated
into our menagerie. This didn't work, so we've been looking for a new
home for him.
It looks like...

Howard's Story by
Brian Link
A cat adopted from the streets, Howard was in poor shape. One ear had
been destroyed by mites, he had a raging infection on his neck which
threatened his life. His former owners cast him out for spraying, not
realizing that neutering would help.
Dying, but still willing to admit the help of...

Interesting Henry update: possible adoption by
Brian Link
Meghan has set me up with someone who may be interested in adopting
Henry! They'll be visiting tomorrow. I need to make sure Henry's been
well-brushed...
In anticipation of this, I took Henry to the vet today for a general
once-over as well as a butt-shave.
He seemed perfectly healthy, and the...

Setback - (was: Cat Introduction & Bi-Polar kitty) by
Brian Link
We've had the cardboard off the screen-door for a week, and were
getting ready to do the inverted playpen thing (reconstructed from
memory out of old advice on cat intros).
Louis the Bengal (outside) figured out how to climb the screen, and
managed to un-latch the screen door, giving him access to...
