Duffy - update by
MaryL[_2_]
Duffy had his first checkup since I started his medication for
hyperthyroidism. TED says he is in great shape--"remarkable" for his
age. He has gained 6 ounces, which is just what we wanted to see. He
has a good appetite and lots of energy.

Duffy and Holly (new photos) by
MaryL
This is a duplicate of the message I posted yesterday in the health+behav
newsgroup. I don't normally duplicate messages and seldom cross-post (except
in responses), but someone suggested that I do this because I post
frequently in the anecdotes group and often mention my two furbabies.
Some of...

Duffy and Selina by
MaryL[_2_]
Duffy and Selina are doing very well together. I have some chairs with
skirts, and they have a game that they play over and over again. One will
be under the chair and hidden by the skirts, the other will be outside. A
paw keeps poking out from under the skirt, and they will bat at each...

Duffy decorates the Christmas tree by
MaryL
I have often described my cat, Duffy, as "a little gymnast." He loves to
climb, and anyone watching him would have a hard time recognizing that he is
blind (and has been since birth). He left the Christmas tree alone except
for two occasions -- on the first day when I put it up and...

Duffy exam report (good) by
MaryL
Duffy had his exam this week and received an excellent health report. The
reason I'm reporting is that the vet said he has "extraordinary" muscle tone
for a blind cat, especially around his hind legs. I have frequently posted
suggestions that people get a good cat tree, and I especially...

Duffy finds Holly by
MaryL
I opened a closet door to replace the leaf of a table I had used for dinner
awhile ago. A short time later, I noticed Duffy sitting in front of the
closet door and staring intently at it. I couldn't figure out why he was so
interested, but I opened the door -- and out marched Holly. It's...

Duffy Has a New Companion (LONG) by
MaryL[_2_]
I had not intended to adopt another cat this soon. I was still mourning the
loss of Holly and would get a lump in my throat when I wandered around the
house and looked at her favorite places–and there were many of them.
However, I decided that Duffy needs a companion. He was crying and...

Duffy has gone to the Bridge (Oct. 16, 2017) by
MaryL
I am heartbroken to report that my wonderful Duffy has gone to the
Bridge. He had a wonderful report at his last check-up a month ago, and
his health failure came on remarkably fast. My sister is visiting from
Ohio, and he was happy and playful when we left for dinner yesterday. He
had jumped...

Duffy has hyperthyroidism by
MaryL[_2_]
I have been concerned about Duffy for some time. He has lost weight
(but not as much as most cats his age, according to TED) and he walks
around howling a very loud, complaining sound--not like the cute
"trilling" sound that previously was normal with him. I suspected
hyperthyroidism and took...

Duffy helps decorate the Christmas tree by
MaryL
I just posted 3 photos to alt.binaries.pictures.animals under the thread
"Duffy Decorates the Christmas Tree." Duffy may be blind, but you can see
from these photos that he doesn't know the meaning of the word "can't." (Of
course, many of you already knew that. I think Duffy has a fan club of...

Duffy in the Christmas tree by
MaryL
Duffy may be blind, but he can do almost everything. He loves to climb and
plays with all sorts of toys (especially those that roll or make
noise--balls, play 'n squeak toys, etc.). As soon as I sit down in one
particular chair, he takes it as an invitation to jump up and settle down
*on my...

Duffy in the Christmas Tree by
MaryL
I'm just posted two photos of Duffy in alt.binaries.pictures.animals. The
photos are not good quality, but they show Duffy in one of his favorite
modes -- climbing anything in sight. I had just set up the Christmas tree
and hadn't even had time to separate the branches, but it doesn't take...

Duffy is a TV star by
MaryL
This has been an exciting day -- one where we went from an almost-certain
death sentence for two little blind kittens to one where a promise has been
made that they will not be euthanized. When I was first contacted, the
person who called me said that both cats were to be euthanized the...

Duffy is getting eye medication by
MaryL[_2_]
Isn't this ironic? My little Duffy is blind, but he has developed an
eye allergy that causes drainage. Unlike many blind cats, he has never
had to have his eyes removed or sewn shut. Fortunately, the allergy
does not seem to bother him, but he has a prescription to have two drops
in each eye...

Duffy needs dental work by
MaryL[_2_]
Nikki and Selina are doing well, but Duffy has not been eating right and has
lost weight. Based on estimates when I first adopted him, he is probably
15-16 years old now. I took him to the vet today, and the good news is that
all of his tests (blood work and urinalysis) except one are good. ...

Duffy needs tooth extraction by
MaryL[_2_]
My darling Duffy needs to have a tooth (possibly two) pulled. I have
antibiotic pills to start on Tuesday, and the extraction will be on
Friday. His teeth do not need to be cleaned, but I saw the symptoms of
tooth problems--exactly the same as occurred two years ago, so I was
able to get him...

Duffy the Bandit by
MaryL
Hi,
I was having a ham sandwich for dinner. Duffy was perched on the arm of the
chair beside me. Suddenly, he reached and grabbed a little edge of ham with
his teeth and *pulled the whole thing out.* So there we were -- Duffy had
the ham (which fortunately had landed on the plate), and I had a...

Duffy the Bedtime Cat by
MaryL[_2_]
Duffy has gotten into the habit of following closely behind me when I head
for bed. I sit on the edge of the bed to turn the light off, and I have to
be careful because I find that he has leapt onto the bed even before I
stretch my legs out. I don't want to kick him, so he gets the right of...
