Should I buy a laser pointer? by John Doe[_2_]
I know they are fun at first, but how long does it take before the thrill is gone? Or is it just a matter of spacing the play periods? Thanks.

I just spent $44 for 6 pounds of cat food by John Doe[_2_]
Not really bragging, some people spend lots more in other ways on their pets. I like to spend at the front end. Purina is enforcing their ban against selling Veterinary Diets Oral Care without a prescription. So $44 is the black market price for a $32 bag. What other food/treat options are...

Introducing new food gradually by John Doe[_2_]
Introducing new food gradually by the book is great, but you must be on the lookout for a gradual decrease in food intake. That is likely especially true if you have multiple cats and one of them has an eating disorder, you must keep an eye on that one.

Looks like 1/8 inch recycled rubber mat works well for climbing by John Doe[_2_]
Besides the fact that it stinks horribly for weeks, it has started shedding fine particles. The thick stuff I used before worked great. It showed signs of wear, but did not shed any rubber. Next time I will try getting that other formula in a thinner version. Looking back at my posts......

Filter fan makes litter duty easy by John Doe[_2_]
My filter fan broke. Before, I would pick it up and take it into the closet where there big litter pale is. Put the filter fan on high, scooped, and then sprayed some bleach into the clump container before tying it up. I knew the filter fan drew all of the dust away, but I did not realize how...

Singing to cats by John Doe[_2_]
I sing badly, but... After 10 years of singing to my hard-core feral, it is finally coming out to me. Also... Singing works with strays. You can see them relax immediately when you start singing to them. Not talking about a ballad, just a few words repeated over and over again. Monotone, does...

The new Tidy Cats unscented litter by John Doe[_2_]
If you are open to trying other litters and haven't tried the new Tidy Cats unscented ("free and clear" or something like that)... Looking at it, it is all smooth round pellets. That seems unusual. As I recall... The last Tidy Cats I bought was like tiny crushed rocks, not smooth and rounded at...

YouTube channel promoting child abuse... by John Doe[_2_]
I occasionally remember someone posting to this group about "the unthinkable happening". Apparently their cats were playing, or perhaps fighting and they weren't stopping it, and one of the cats got an eye clawed out. As someone who has managed cats for decades, I am very mindful of the risk of...

Recycled car tire rubber for climbing material by John Doe[_2_]
We been using recycled car tire rubber 1/4 inch thick mat since March 2015. It works very well for climbing and it doesn't shed onto the floor. It was cut in strips and hot melt glued to 1x4s with about 1/2 inch hanging over each side. They have some trouble climbing down, like cats do on...

Unbelievable price for litter by John Doe[_2_]
http://www.chewy.com/tidy-cats-scoop-247-performance/dp/105877 A 40 pound box of Tidy Cats litter with free shipping for $11 (US). They have got to be kidding. It's been unbelievably low before, but that's just ridiculous. There is no way on Earth they can make a profit. So what are they doing?

My outside cat has an electric blanket by John Doe[_2_]
I was thinking of ways to keep it warm during the winter. You know, boxes or whatever. I bought an electric blanket and it hasn't left the area since that day. The weather hardly gets below freezing, so I'm hoping for a cold night :) I think it will work at least down to 0°F. One night was about...

Rubber mat to attach to 2x4s? by John Doe[_2_]
I'm convinced that there is a better material than carpet for attaching to 2x4s for climbing. For example, I have a ribbed rubber doormat that looks close if it were cut lengthwise and hot melt glued to the 2x4. Something longer would be better. Some ribbed rubber mat, maybe something used for...

wrestling by John Doe[_2_]
I've always enjoyed wrestling (real wrestling, not professional wrestling). The newcomer female is bigger than my male. And she is a bully. Now they are warming up to each other, they are frequently wrestling. Most of it is friendly, but sometimes they get rough. He is probably in it for the...

Cat herding, it is possible by John Doe[_2_]
After about one month experience... With very limited use, and not actually shocking anything (of course), just the sound of a stun gun can be an extremely effective tool for convincing your cat to do something or stop doing something. Currently one of my cats is on the porch. She can also...

the eternal poop scoop by John Doe[_2_]
I've had this poop scoop for at least 20 years. A testament to modern plastic. It's scooped tons of heavy clay litter. I recall buying it from the local megastore. It's huge and made entirely with one type of plastic. The background is a standard size paper...

Gang violence by John Doe[_2_]
Yesterday my pint-size Calico was being harassed by my usually timid and fun male cat. The hard-core feral was near him. He jumped on the front end of the Calico and the feral immediately jumped on her backend. Of course I stopped it. The feral is worthless as a pet, so that stuff won't be...

Beware of dusty litter by John Doe[_2_]
Perhaps I should have known, but I have learned the hard way... When you stop using dusty litter, you should remove all of the dusty litter before adding new litter. I suppose it depends on the precise formula of the dusty litter. If you don't remove all of the old dusty litter before beginning to...

Best way to grab a ferel? by John Doe[_2_]
When working with my neutered outdoor part feral cat, I must have total conviction in what I am doing. If I get scratched a little along the way, I mustn't react (or the session is over). Any known technique for picking up such a cat with the least risk while slipping a breakaway flea collar...

Big cat stopper by John Doe[_2_]
My constant supervision has helped over the years, sometimes they even play (while supervised), but my aggressive cat's natural tendency is always lurking. She is a great cat to people, she is not really a bully, she's just ETERNALLY AGGRESSIVE against anything that moves and isn't 10 times...
