Cat food brands--Science Diet = cat equivalent of rich folk buyingtheir people food at Whole Foods and other boutique grocery stores? by mike
I'm skeptical that expensive cat food brands like Science Diet are worth the money, health and nutrition-wise, over brands like Purina One. Is this a "boutique" type issue, where those who shop at expensive, organic grocery stores for human food (e.g. Whole Foods, EarthFare, etc) also tend toward...

taste... by Joe Canuck
Just brought another bag of Science Diet home and noticed this text "...great taste..." on the bag. How are we to know it tastes great? Has anyone here ever been so brave as to taste the stuff? If so, did it taste great? Do you think your cat will agree with your assessement of the taste?

Scapegoats and Feral Cats by James Marz
Scapegoats and Feral Cats Working on the wheatbins at Mingenew, in the northern wheatbelt of Western Australia, in the early 80s, I witnessed the systematic slaughter of feral cats by high-powered guns. At an age where I'd grown out of the need to prove my passionate interaction with...

Bats can Give Cats Rabies? by sheelagh
I found this story rather surprising. I have never heard of bats carrying rabies before now, but then again, we don't have rabies here...(Yet!) http://www.mlive.com/news/chronicle/index.ssf?/base/news-11/1181915114303570.xml&coll=8 Is this a common problem, or a one off incident? S;o)

Mary S. Provided False Information About Conan by Jess A via CatKB.com
I recently started reading this board, and have been following Conan's story! After reading some of the messages, I became extremely concerned about the fact that people could justify placing Conan with Charlie Wilkes. He would not provide a suitable home for Conan. Anyone who gets his cat high...

new cats; tip of tongue sticking out by Jean B.
Well, the new cats have arrived. Only time will tell whether they will be foster cats or will remain here for life. They will be here at least until December, when they can go to a no-kill shelter, but that seems like a bad place for shy cats. Of course, since they only arrived on Tuesday, Mingy...

hair/fur shedding by whisky-dave
My cat is white and tends to shed far more hair than my previous black/white and mixed fur cats have. Do white haired cats shed more or is it just that it notices more. i.e do I have to give up wearing coloured clothes ;-) She's not too keen on being brushed/combed either A few pictures...

Squatting, but no pee by Holly
My 2 year old cat frequently squats but does not pee. My vet has told me this is behavioral, but I suspect it is something more. She has other clearly behavioral problems with the litter box--peeing over the edge, holding her pee until I am at home, peeing on rugs--but I am worried this is an...

Did I read that correctly? by RobZip
A crawl at the bottom of the screen on CNN this morning says North Carolina is considering raising taxes on pet food as a means of reducing pet overpopulation. My first reaction would be that it's about as misguided as raising gas taxes to discourage consumption... Anybody here got more background...

Any experience with kitty downers? by Justsomebody
My cat is driving me crazy with its vocalization. It wants out, and we're trying to make it an indoor cat. That's the short story. Anyway, I know they do prescribe things for cats. Does anyone have experience with these medications? Do they help relax the critters so they can relearn behaviors?

Cat Rescue Groups in AZ by MacCandace
I just complied a list of cat rescue groups in the Phoenix, AZ area for a co-worker who has a mom and baby kittens in her backyard. Unfortunately, she is not much of a cat lover and doesn't want to keep them or find homes for them. She only spotted them today so does not yet even know if they are...
