my cat's tongue turned purple! by kitkat via CatKB.com
My cat just got back from spending the weekend at the vet's because he needed SubQ fluids and antibiotics - I know my cat's tongue was red - now it's purple - think its the meds or a reaction to the meds? I'm assuming the vet would've noticed this before otherwise she won't have sent him home. ...

I have three cats, and all of them like to lick plastic bags. One of them likes to chew the plastic too. Anyone else have a cat like this? Also, does anyone think this is dangerous in any way? Judy F

Feeding questions by Wendy
We have a 16 year old spayed female tabby, Tigger, who has a tendency to be overweight. We got her down to 9 lbs. but this is still a little heavy for her frame. It is imperative to keep her weight down as she has arthritis. We also have a 1-2 yr. old long hair spayed female, Isabel. We...

Newbie with a question by Joy
Hi all, I'm new here, although I'm a long-time subscriber to rpca. I'm hoping somebody has some suggestions to help a poor little feral kitty. Five years ago I adopted two three-year-old littermates, a male and a female. A few months ago the male got cancer and subsequently had to be PTS. ...

Cat pees when you pick her up by Jacqueline
We have a female cat, just over 1 year old, that we adopted about 4 months ago. A few weeks after we adopted her we discovered blood in her urine and took her ot the vet. She was prescribed antibiotix, which seemed to help for a while. A month or so after we finished the antibiotics she started...

Pro-Plan versus Fancy Feast by cindys
Alex was recently off his food for a couple of days, so my vet suggested that I try (canned) Pro-Plan (for the sake of its ostensible palatability), which I did. He seemed to like a few of the flavors. However, in looking at the labels, it lists by-products amongst the first four ingredients of...

Biting me while I'm asleep by Tara
Hi everyone, My 1-year-old kitty, Zali, has taken to biting me while I'm sleeping. She'll bite me relatively softly the first time and wake me up. I tell her "no" groggily (and in a near-whisper so as not to wake my partner) and then go back to sleep. Then about five minutes later she'll bites me...

Survey by CatNipped
There is a lot of history going on here in rpch+b that I don't know (or even wish to know). But I *would* like to know more about the experiences people here have had with cats. To that end, if you wouldn't mind I'd like to see if I could get some data that might help me formulate opinions or...

Bumps on cat's back by [email protected]
Hello ! I have a 16 year old tabbie. Along the top of her back or spine, each vertebrae has a bony lump on it. These extend up to about 3/8 " or so. The bigger ones toward her tail - feels like there's a ball bearing under the skin. The bumps do not move, they are bone. So when I pet her back...

Is Tiki Cat cat food good quality??? by Docberk
My wife and I adopted two 12 week old kittens about a month ago. Initially, they were on MaxCat at the no-kill shelter where we got them. When we were shopping for supplies, a woman who owns a mom and pop pet store told us abotu Tiki Cat and how wonderful it is. We gave them a few cans and it was...

Coat matting by reilloc
Advise, please: my long-haired cat, who's got a personality more suspicious than a mother/father-in-law (take your choice) and a hair trigger when it comes to any sudden noise (and when the trigger trips the creature turns into a buzz saw that must get away) has significant matting of his coat....

Advice needed by J. Marz
kaeli sayeth something like; I still wonder why the people who think it's perfectly fine to let cats roam free think that dogs should be leashed or behind a gate. I've yet to get a satisfactory answer to that. I think that dogs are more likely to attack and...

ants in the kitty litter by Jewelbar
Hi People! I'm just wondering if I should worry that there are ants in my cat's litter. They are only going after his urine. I know that if a person has diabetes, ants will be attracted to their toilets, so I was wondering if the same was for cats. He always looses weight over summer, but this...

My cat won't stop begging for food by Dom
It's all in the subject title. To give you a feel for things, my cat will beg (cry, poke at me, search the trash for food) as soon as I get home. I give him a 3oz can of gravy-lovers food, and a bowl of hard food, and he licks up all the gravy in the first and takes a nibble from the second, then...

Getting cat to use scratching post? by [email protected]
I'm the one who has considered bringing in a stray, and did not want to declaw her. Before I commit to letting her in full time, I've been letting her in for short periods (an hour or so), supervised. I bought a sisal scratching post, and one of those cardboard horizontal scratching pads. When...

Dog lover turned kitten mother, LOTS of questions.. by Nicole Johnson
Hi all! Yes, I have converted. I still love my great dane, but the newest love of my life (Hailey the supposed maine coon) has me stressed. In all 21 of my years, I've never owned a feline, so perhaps having rescued a 4 week old kitten that insists that I'm her mommie from which she can...

Counting stray cats while cycling at night by John Doe[_2_]
I bought a powerful LED headlamp. Took it for a ride after dark two nights ago. It was warm out but having the thing strapped to my forhead at eye level, it is so powerful I could see what looked like moderate to heavy snowfall that was probably actually teeny tiny specks of pollen. It was not...
