USDA Misleading American Public about Beef Safety
December 24, 2003 by Michael Greger, M.D.
It is not surprising that the U.S. has mad cow disease given our flaunting of
World Health Organization recommendations. What is surprising, however,...

How to get old "new dog & two old cats to co-exist by
Kailey11
My friend just adopted a really great 8 year old dog. She has two resident
older cats and another dog. The cats have always done fine with her dogs after
the initial "check out". This dog goes after the cats and one of them swipes
him repeatedly and he ends up all bloody. He doesn't seem to quit...

I'll never see Kami again... by
MacCandace
Kami hasn't been too fond of the extra cold and it's silly to heat the
house to a nice 76 all day and all night. So, I bought her a plush
kitty teepee today. She went inside and has been there the last
several hours. I don't think she's coming out until summer.
My cats have heating pads,...

Defacating outside litter box by
Debragrmi
We have a white male cat approximately 13 years old that has just recently
begun exhibiting a peculiar behavior. He has started stooling, but not
urinating outside his litter box. In fact, he will urinate in the box and then
run to the other room and leave his present. He has two brothers that do...

Hyperthyroidism by
[email protected]
Just got the (pre dental)lab results back for my 14 yr old tabby and
found out that he has a T4 of 118 nmol/L. The dental cleaning will be
delayed until his thyroid condition is under control.
We have decided that pilling him with Tapazole is not an option
because he hates pilling and even goes...

Sparky update- gone by
[email protected]
Day after Christmas, 9 pm. Sparky made it through Christmas. Not so
lucky today. He died about an hour ago. The end was peaceful. He just
seemed to fall asleep.
I took him from his bed to see if he had to urinate, and I had to hold
him up in the litter box. He didn't do anything. I picked him up...

Help please: how do I make two cats coexist? (LONG) by
Jocelyn Lavin
You'll notice I didn't say "introduce a second cat", for which there are any
number of sites giving hints... My current problem is one that has crept up
on me unawares - if I had been *planning* to introduce a second cat, I'd have
done it the sensible way. But it's too late for that.
The situation...

pork? by
Dennis Carr
I've heard it said once that pork is one of the things you don't feed to
your cats.
Now, other than that it's not kosher (and then a concern if kitty is
Jewish), I'm curious, what is the reason for this?

Cheap "perch" for cat? by
[email protected]
As the cat gets more comfortable around the house, I notice that she
loves to perch. But she still doesn't get up on the furniture (fine
with me).
If I don't want to invest in the expensive "condos," is there
something else I can get for her to perch on?
I love watching the predatory behavior,...

Pleased with the cat training so far by
[email protected]
This stray that we took in is great.
As soon as I started squirting her with a spray bottle for scratching
on the furniture, she started using her post. Now she uses the post
about a hundred times a day.
She's also gotten very playful. She plays with toys constantly. She
had a rough life...

Shamrock's poor skin condition by
Cheryl
Just doing a little homework ahead of time and I had posted in amv about
antihistamine use in cats. I am so hesitant to keep getting him steroid
shots since there is FeLV in the house and steroids lower the immune
system. Not sure if antihistamines do, but the vet said they were worth
trying. A...

cat scratching off fur again by
[email protected]
My siamese is once again scratching off the fur around his neck (no
fleas.) He did it this past summer, but eventually we and the vet
determined that it was an allergy to a different food we had tried, and he
and his fur eventually recovered.
Now, he's doing it again, and there's been no food...

Cat with sensitive paws by
LE Hallas, Wakeshire Off
Any help appreciated.
We have a 12 year old calico cat which recently was diagnosed with a bit of
arthritis in the rear legs but otherwise in good health.
About a week ago, 'it' stopped letting people touch her front paws - really
hissing as if sensitive. We left her alone a few days but now she...

Strange story/how do I trap a stray cat? (slightly long) by
Marcie
About a month ago, one of my closest friends died suddenly of a
massive heart attack at the age of 53. He was like a brother to me. It
was a great shock and since then, I have been struggling to cope with
the loss.
I can't remember when it was, but I was driving home from work when I
called out to...
