What's with Amber? by
---MIKE---
Amber is 14 years old. She eats, poops and sleeps a lot on her heated
window seat. She almost never meows. This morning she was following me
around and meowing a lot. She was also rubbing her face on everything
(I don't hold to the theory that this is marking territory). When I
asked her what...

Somewhat OT - spiders by
---MIKE---
I am fortunate that the spiders I get in the house are all fairly small.
Most of them are about the size of a 25 cent piece and black (not black
widows). I usually find them in the sink of bathtub where they can't
get the traction to get out. I get them into a jar for the trip
outside.

Copied from the rpch+b group by

My beautiful, vocal, loving and oh so sweet but way too independent
little gray calico Noel, named as she came into my life just before
Christmas of 2006, was brutally murdered by a pack of coyotes on Tuesday
night. She pulled a door open that I had neglected to lock or check to
see if it had...

Why does Tiger do this? by
---MIKE---
Tiger likes to sit on my lap. He does this many times a day. He comes
over and very carefully (24 pounds) steps on my lap and just stands
there. He stands for several minutes before he finally turns around and
lies down. I keep telling him to "take a seat" but he waits until he is
good and...

Tiger and the Zoom Groom by
---MIKE---
Every morning Tiger lets me give him a good brushing with the Zoom Groom
- purring all the time. I think this has greatly reduced the usual mats
that occur this time of year.

Willow by
---MIKE---
I saw on the news tonight About a calico cat named Willow that
disappeared five years ago in Colorado. She turned up in New york City
the other day. She was identified by a microchip and returned to her
family.

Coco is here by
---MIKE---
My friend brought Coco to me this morning. So far no fights with Tiger.
He is beginning to move around very slowly. He is being very cautious.

Hide and seek with a cat. by
---MIKE---
Swazzie is still hiding but keeps changing her hiding place. She did
eat some of her food and used the litter boxes for both pee and poop. I
haven't found her yet today and I have looked everywhere (obviously
almost everywhere!)

Somewhat OT - spiders by
---MIKE---
I have always been sort of creeped out by spiders. About 11 years ago,
I worked at a water park. One day there was a huge spider at one of the
slide splashdowns. It was about 4 or 5 inches across. I killed it. A
few days later my tuxedo cat IKE disappeared. Karma? I never kill
spiders any...

Tiger remembers by
---MIKE---
Bobbie wrote:
I've read that the salt content in the
human tuna water is quite high and can
be too high to be safe for cats.
I only give him a small taste. Then I give him a small piece of the
tuna. He also gets to lick the bowl after I have mixed the tuna with
Miracle Whip.

Tiger winked! by
---MIKE---
Tiger was staring right at me so I winked with my right eye and asked
him if he could do this. Much to my surprise he did it. To be sure I
tried it again and he did it again.

Tonight I saw the first hummingbird on my feeder. The last three years
the first hummer appeared on May 6th. This is a good sign.

Types of hissing by
---MIKE---
Tiger will hiss for no good reason. When I am going upstairs, he will
try to block my way and if I bump him with my leg he will hiss. When I
walk by him he will reach out and catch my shoe with a claw - he hisses.
It doesn't mean he's angry. It doesn't seem to mean anything at all.
He just likes...

Tiger is 10 today by
---MIKE---
Not 11 as I mistakenly said yesterday. He was born May 11, 1999. Not
knowing his exact birth date I "assigned" May 11 since that was my
mother's birthday and I knew he was "about" four months old when I got
him in September.

Amber's step stool by

I got Amber a small step stool to help her get to her window seat. She
used it right away. Now I will get another to help her get up on my

Tiger's strange habit by
---MIKE---
When Tiger eats, he eats about half of his dish and then "runs" (more of
a fast walk) to the stairs and heads down as if he had a hurry call to
the litter box. When I check, none of the boxes had been used. He
comes back up for more of his plate. Sometimes he repeats his rush
downstairs but also...

Spazzie update by

She has become a real lap cat. There is no more hiding even from Tiger.
Sometimes Tiger gets ready to come on my lap and sees that Spazzie is
already there. Tiger just turns around and lies down where he is He is
being very good. I'm hoping that soon they will groom each other.
