Cat Humor: How to Modify your Pet's behavior, from Basic Instructions by jmc
I've loved Basic Instructions for quite a while now. They are often very good advice, if you "read between the lines". Now, I don't necessarily think that lots of 'mew' is undesirable behavior, but then I don't have a siamese :) Anyway,...

Eilish, Thank you for your words of support by Jannie
Thank you everyone who posted words of support for the passing of Eilish. This is the second morning without her and I keep waiting for it to get better. I feel like my friends have said they are sorry about what happened and now that is it. I am not supposed to talk about it anymore. My...

Eilish Could Not Be Saved by Jannie
I lost my precious Eilish this morning. My heart is breaking and I am still in shock. I posted a message last week to the group about my puking cats. They are littermates. I did switch their food and one of them immediately quit vomiting. One did not. I took her to the vet Saturday when she...

Increase in dumped pets accompanies mortgage crisis by MaryL
CNN.com has a report today about the increase in the number of "dumped" pets resulting from mortgage foreclosures. The lucky ones are taken to shelters, but many have simply been abandoned. Even worse are the ones that are abandoned but are not set free -- they are left cained up or locked...

Marlo's drooling by dgk
As I was leaving for work I noticed that there were several wet spots on the bed. I checked the butts of my three cats but all were fine and there was no evidence of problems in the litterbox. Then I noticed that Marlo was drooling a bit. I've had that before with a cat and it was likely some bug...

sneezing by Chris[_4_]
I have six cats and all of them are sneezing. Not constantly, just here and there, but they don't usually sneeze at all. Is it just the change of seasons? Granted it is only 5 degrees outside, but the house is kept pretty warm. There is no discharge, mucus, eyes look clear.

What 'nicknames' do you give your "cats"? by [email protected]
Not to get into too much detail, but ours are called "mats" and "hawks". "Mats" is too personal and embarrassing to get into. "Hawks" cause we say they are "hawking around" for trouble! I've heard people call ferrets "carpet sharks". What names do you guys have for cats in general, or a specific...

PING Phil progressive HCM; is there anything I can do? by yngver
Last May our cat (now age 11) was diagnosed with very mild HCM. I posted the echo results here and the repeat echo in Dec 2007. It showed no significant changes so the cardiologist said to repeat echo in one year. We just had the recheck echo with a different cardiologist. Our cat has been...

Feline Vocabulary by [email protected]
Three cats, one of which appears to have a vocabulary of at least three words: o Food o Water o Treats I can tell by his call which of the three he wants. Is there any accepted word on cat verbal communication? It seems odd to me that one of the three would "speak" while the others do not.
