Training on a Harness & Leash by Carrie-Lou Salter
Up until now, I've just been lurking. I have a 7 1/2 month old greyish brown mackerel tabby named Casey. We want him to be an indoor cat, but he wants to go outside, attempts to dart out sometimes, especially when we're letting the dogs out (3 of them)...I think he's jealous cause they get to go...

Ideal Cat by Jim Warren
Hates being petted, doesn't like to rub up against you, lives to catch mice. I want one, what breed should I get. Thanks, Jim

What Would You Do? by [email protected]
As some of you know I own the website http://www.stopdeclaw.com I often get emails and they are usually positive, generally filled with good news about cats having their declaw appointments canceled :-), and occasionally I get some filled with ignorant statements that I pretty much ignore. Today I...

what litter do you use in your littermaid? by Laura
hi I have had a litter maid since december of last year and have been using the pet smart store brand advanced stuff, but it has recently went up in price. It used to be 13 for a 40 lb box and now the boxes are 30 lbs and have a new odour thing in them and they are 16. Which is kind of pricy since...

Hair loss by Jon Riley
We have a 14-year female cat who is suffering from increasing hair loss over the rear half of her body. She recently had an enlarged thyroid removed. Before this she was losing weight, and had scabby patches on her fur. The vet thought the latter might be flea allergy, although she has been...

skin problems by Betsy
Where do I go from here? Melon had little scabs about her face & neck. She was always scratching. I applied Frontline to all the cats. She scratched as much as ever. Then her toes swelled up, every toe on each front foot. They were bright pink and so swollen you couldn't express the claw. I...

Kitten gets a mouthful of the other cat's fur... is this considered playing? by Betty
We have a kitten less than 6 months old. He will be neutered in a month. We have a cat who is almost 2 years old. Sometimes they play and the kitten will come up with a mouthful of the older cat's fur. Is this harming the cat? He is a lilac-point Himalayan, and he sheds quite a bit, and I...

Littermaid owners, please read! by Mike
First of all, this is NOT an advertisement. I'm just relating to all my fellow lazy humans that hate to handle the LB everyday about a "discovery" I just found. I've owned several littermaids over the past 7 years, b/c the damn things keep breaking, but even though its cost prohibitive, I keep...

Good News and Bad News (a foster update). by Kalyahna
The good news: Malcolm went back to the humane society, into the multiple cat room. He's in hog heaven. Chowing down, loving the other kitties. What's amusing is that he's a big solid boy with huge paws and not an ounce of chub on him but he's so easily intimidated by the black and white female in...

Food for flat nosed cat? by Karen M.
I was asked about this by a woman I know who adopted a flat-nosed Himalayan (sp?). Is there a particular kind of bowl or food that is best for such a cat? He has a harder time eating his food. She just got the Royal Canin for Persians, but I don't know if that is for Persians due to their flat...

biting in the middle of the night by sushi
hi, this might seem kind of strange. my 2-year old tabby has always gotten plenty of love and attention, but i've recently moved to a new place further from work. this means that i'm home less often and don't get to spend as much time playing with him as he's used to. he likes to play, a LOT, and...

Peritonitis in Cats by Stacey
I'm looking for information on peritonitis, not FIP, just peritonitis. Any information or sources would be greatly appreciated. I haven't been able to find much if any at all, even in the Cornell Book of Cats. Has anyone had any experience with a cat who had it? Thank you very much, Stacey --

No food till morning after dental? by Cheryl
Poor Shamrock. He was still out of it when he got home after having his teeth cleaned today and I've kept him downstairs so he wouldn't attempt the stairs in his wobbly state. The orders were "no food, ice chips if he wants water". Well he is very hungry since not eating since last night. He's...

Weak tendons by Liz
I noticed today one of the kitties I rescued last year (she should be around 13 or 14 months now) seems to have weak or stretched forelimb tendons. Her "wrists", instead of bending only backwards, can bend forward to a considerable degree (almost as much as we can). Has anyone seen this before?...

She is better now, but still 8 days of antibiotics to go, plus 'how on earth do I take her urine sample?' but all I want to say is....please,. keep your cat's liter box inside. And watch it. I...

Vaccinations by FlVEbyFiVE
The vet clinic I take my cats to has a medical plan in which a low monthly payment pays for all office visits, exams, and most vaccinations. My cat's yearly contract is running out so he will be receiving his shots soon. The list of shots included in the plan are distemper, rabies, leukemia,...
