Go away, Enemy Cat! by
Kate Orman
I have two desexed adult male indoor-only cats. At night, a
neighbourhood cat visits our house and lurks in the front yard, often
sitting on the doorstep. This completely freaks out my pair, with lots
of banging and crashing as they jump up on things to try to get a view
of the other fellow,...

Feral kitten and litter box by
Priscilla Ballou
Folks,
I am crossposting this to health+behavior and rescue. I posted an
introduction about the feral kitten I'm suddenly responsible for on the
rescue group, but I now have a specific question that I would welcome
help with from either group. I will repost the introductory post at the
end.
My...

How much to feed a 4.5 lb cat? by
Kiran
Our cat is only 4.5 lb, not 6 lb everybody guessed when our bathroom
scale was broken.
I have been feeding her 5.5-6 oz of canned food daily (either one
Friskies or two Fancy Feasts, split between two meals).
Now I think it may be too much. How much should she get? I could cut it
down to one...

In Support of Monica by
MaryL
I have been following some of the messages concerning Monica with a
combination of sadness and anger. Monica has a long history on the
newsgroup, and many of you should be well aware that a cat's best interest
is always foremost on her mind. You can tell a lot about a person by that
person's...

Pseudofed for Congested Cat? by
Mary
My friend's vet told her to give her eight-month-old kitten 30 mgs of
regular Pseudofed for her respiratory congestion. He has the cat on
some sort of antibiotics, but my friend wanted to do more because the
cat is so uncomfortable and congested, very sleepy, won't play, etc.
This kitten was spayed...

feed Nutro? by
Tamara
Thanks for your inquiry about taurine and cardiomyopathy (DCM).
Taurine is essential for a healthy heart and Nutro is on the forefront
of current taurine research.
The Journal of the American Veterinary Medical Association (JAVMA)
recently published the results of a UC Davis study begun in 1997...

Let cat outside or keep it in? by
tman
Hi, we have a 3 yr. old cat. For the first 2 1/2 yrs. of his life, he has
never been outside... we lived in an apartment, and the closest he could
get was on the second floor porch, with no route to outside.
Now we own a house with about 1.5 acre or so, a portion of it wooded and
brush. Question...

Tiger's kidneys by
Elizabeth Blake
Tiger went to the vet on Sunday. She had peed in several places that
were not her litterbox, and her skanky ears were bothering her again.
I called just now to see if her test results were back. The vet said
the urine culture wasn't done, so I don't know about that yet. She
said that her urine...

I am afraid of my cat! HELP ME!! (long!) by
patti
I have several questions for you cat folks--a little background first:
6 years ago I adopted a stray--I did not want to (I was previously a
dog person). The cat showed up pathetic and skinny and we were having
an ice storm so I fed it and eventually gave it a place to live in the
laundry room (we...

Warring with a loudmouthed Siamese cat by
AZ Nomad[_2_]
The last couple of months have been interesting in my relationship
with a loudmouthed siamese *******.
He has slowly over the years grown to be almost totally feral and
before I laid down the law was only coming inside for 5 minutes at a
time to eat.
I decided that I didn't want the situation...

A parallel universe by
Goat Roper
My cats will often, both while fighting with a piece of paper and when just
walking down the hall, look up at a bare wall and jump about two feet off
the floor and take off as if I had caught them stealing off the dinner
table.
It's like they saw something that startled them that was not visible...

Returning a "lost" cat? Need help... by
rockandrollbadboy
My girlfriend had been asking me for a cat for sometime. After several
weeks I finally went out to get one. I waited for hours till I saw a
stray scratching on someone's door. I brought it home and my
girlfriend loved it. Long story short - she is spending way too much
time with this cat. We had...

Are Cats Smart? by
Mark Earnest
It was observed here not too long ago that someone's cat will
attack a napkin and tear it to shreds for apparently no reason at all.
Supposedly cats are weird, and not too bright, to do such a thing.
Well, consider this.
My sister purchased a cat toy for me for Christmas, and it is a...

Swiffer Wetjet Rumor is False by
PawsForThought
From: "Phil P."
The Swifter Wetjet solution contains propylene glycol (PG). PG causes Heinz
bodies in cats. Heinz bodies result in red blood cell destruction and
hemolytic anemia in cats.
Cats have oxidant-sensitive hemoglobin. Their hemoglobin is highly unstable

protect persian rug, declaw not an option by
Elijah
Hiya.
Have a supremely annoying and occasionally affectionate 9-month old
kitten and an older and loving tuxedo cat. Was just given a
magnificent persian rug but it'd be a shame if the kitten tore it to
shreds and there's no way I'll declaw them. Is there any kind of
effective deterrant? I was...

Depo Medrol vs Prednisone by
Mary
I need to make a choice about whether to continue Cheeks (4-year-old
shelter rescue, female, spayed, and with beautiful intact little
feets! ) on Depo shots or do prednisone pills for her asthma and
linear granuloma (rodent ulcer) problem.
One shot every two to three months keeps both under...
