Calicos mentally unstable? by
Brian Link
Another urban myth, possibly.
Our new cat has reached equilibrium with the other feline residents.
However, she does tend to flip out with no provocation.
I've recently been hearing from friends that "yeah, calicos are often
like that".
Any truth to this?

Please slow down by
Brian Link
Horrible night last night. I was trying to sleep after pulling four 16
hour shifts. I heard a horrible "thump-meow" out my window. When I
looked out the window, the neighbor's cat was in his death-throes.
Some asshole was speeding down the street and freaked out the cat, who
made an attempt across...

Hyaluronic acid for joint problems? by
Brian Link
Hyaluronic acid is being routinely used for human knee problems. It's
basically WD-40 for joints. It's used for arthritis and other joint
trauma.
Since our little Bengal Louis was diagnosed with "Hip Dysplasia", but
only on one side, I've thought about arthritis in cats. The vets I've
dealt with...

Thoughts on training my cat to find my keys? (via Temple Grandin) by
Brian Link
Temple Grandin got me thinking in her latest book "Animals in
Translation". She talks about the concept that animals are like
autistic savants - in that they can learn some human social behavior,
but retain incredible talents linked to their heightened senses and
different concoiousnesses. I think...

Hip Dysplasia update - non surgical treatment option #2 by
Brian Link
This continues my irritating posts about Feline Hip Dysplasia. Again,
nobody asked me, but someday someone will be googling FHD and might
find this info useful.
There's a school of thought as relates to human musculo-skeletal
disorders which posits that manipulation of soft tissue,...

Hip Dysplasia intel dump & Louis update by
Brian Link
I finally found the right keywords to use to search for info on Feline
Hip Dysplasia, and spoken to my vet a few times. Since searching this
newsgroup has found me precious little info on the condition, I
thought I'd toss off a few info bits in case anyone comes back here to
search.

Behavior: "Rewarding" a fight? by
Brian Link
Chloe is more or less integrated into our household now, but she has
some psychological issues that mean occasional spats with the
long-term residents, Tiger and Louis (as well as us).
It's been months since an eruption, but just a bit ago she and Louis
the Bengal mixed it up. Louis is very high...

Louis almost dies, and gives us the finger by
Brian Link
Louis the Bengal came stumbling into our kitchen around 1AM, while we
were on the phone with the clinic regarding our resident teen girl's
acute illness.
He crept in, lowing, with his tail between his legs. Any touch made
him growl with that frightening sub-sonic Bengal growl.
We took him to the...

Inappropriate Urination: dangit, louis by
Brian Link
Our 5 year old Bengal has resumed his affection for peeing on our
front door.
We'd almost broken him of the habit, but in the last few weeks he's
back at it.
The vet gave him an "all-clear" for urinary or bladder issues. When he
started this behavior, it was classic marking: back legs...

Cat Treat Tip: Fish Flakes by
Brian Link
For a while I was buying a can of "fish flakes" from our pet food
store. Louis the Bengal goes ape-**** over them, and Tiger likes em
too. Chloe the devil-cat is indifferent, but then that's her
temperament.
The cans were costing around 10 bucks apiece, and though we love
spoiling Louis, it...

Cat Life Expectancy and a death... by
Brian Link
My son's girlfriend lost a cat today. She moved here from California,
and her mom kept one kitty. That cat was 15, and just stopped eating.
All blood tests and physicals turned up nothing, and poor old Max just
died at the Vet's.
She's broken up, and I can't find the words to reassure her. I've...

Cat acne by
Brian Link
Our 12-year old, maine-coonish moggie has a small wound on his chin
again this Fall. In the past, we'd removed his plastic food-dish,
since we'd heard that plastic can cause allergic reactions. This
seemed to work for a few years, but over the last couple years he
seems to get this wound back.
It...

Hi! Question about Bengals.. by
Brian Link[_2_]
Well, I'm back on Usenet after several years. Sad to see it's mostly
been usurped by the web. Still some discussions going on in my old
groups, though.
We've got a 9-year old Bengal that developed inappropriate urination
problems a few years ago, and he's also pretty neurotic. We've figured
out...

Meghan the cat-lady? by

I met a fascinating woman in this Usenet group years ago who kept a

that couldn't integrate in our household that included a neurotic F7
Bengal. If she hadn't adopted him, I expect he'd have to have been
shifted out to the...

Day one of Tiger's kidney diet, and history by
Brian Link[_2_]
I'll explain what we're trying in a bit, but first some background.
Apologies for the long post.
Tiger's a 17-year old Maine-Coonish moggie (long hair, ear-tufts,
tabby markings). My son picked him from a litter of farm cats. He's
always been very healthy.
I thought it was time for a physical,...

Tiger's kidney issues by

fwiw, I'm posting updates on Twitter right now. I realized that my

a ****, and this group is pretty much empty (though thanks, old friend
who saw my posts and who's been sending me advice, for your input).
