Diet advice needed--Webster is fat! by Zoeliz
My 1 1/2 year old cat Webster was neutred in May at the age of 1 year and then I adopted him. He weighed just under 10lbs. Now he weighs just under 15lbs! He's a big guy but that really is too fat!! Also, unlike any other cat I've ever had, he's got a food addiction--eats anything that the other...

Cat pooping just outside litter box by Patrick Zearfoss
My roommate and I have 8 month old cat in our apartment. We just moved him down here about 2 weeks ago, and he seems to have adjusted quite well, however we just recently started having a problem with him pooping just out in front of his litter box. He pees in there with no problem, and...

Drooling/cat nip? by Teddy
My 2 1/2 yr. old long haired black kitty (Bear) started drooling the other day so I took him to the vet who could find nothing wrong. After I got home I wondered about the cat nip plant I had brought in that he was helping me clean up. Could he be allergic to it or something? Last week my big...

Cat peeing in front of litter box by Steve
I have three cats. 2 females (4 year old sisters) and 1 male (3 years old). My wife and I moved into a new house about a month and a half ago. The cats seem to have adjusted fine. For some reason yesterday one of the female cats decided to pee right in front of the litter box, instead of in it....

Help. Stressed over sick cat by Newsman
My 13 year old diabetic cat Al was hospitalized recently for a week. The diagnosis was pancreatitis. The vet also performed an ultrasound and found what he thinks is a benign cyst. Question: is exploratory surgery the only way the vet can determine whether or not the cyst is benign? Maintaining...

Cat in a christmas tree by [email protected]
Anyone know of a good way to stop a cat climbing a christmas tree? A cat we had didn't like the NZ sheepskin rug we had, http://www.ecowool.com/category/10/ but the cat we have now still walks on it to get up the tree. Any ideas? cheers. -- Keeping Oxford road dominos in business since oct 7th 2003

Scraping floor next to water bowl. by [email protected]
One of our two 9-month old kitties will quite often scrape the floor next to the water bowl. This is almost a digging action, scraping away from the bowl. My best guess is that this is some kind of instinctual action, like digging for buried water, but I haven't heard of this kind of behavior...

Strange Kneading Behavior by GovtLawyer
My 10 month old Snowshoe Siamese, Mickey, has a very strange kneading behaviour. I understand what kneading is, but his variation is something I have never seen in any of my former cats. BTW, he lives in my aprtment with his sister, Daisy. Also, he was neutered shortly after he turned 4...

silly kitty.... by Dennis Carr
Yes, silly. Though, the behavior on one is a bit worrisome. Two of our girls, right? First subject - about a year old. She's monogamous. That is to say, she will only allow one male cat to attempt to mate with her. And it just so happens that the cat she allows to couple with her...

Psycho Kitty - When Will He Slow Down? by Alan Watts
I have a 4 month old, male Siamese kitten. He is hyper-active - always running and knocking over stuff - trys to jump up walls and scratches the paint. Also, he chews everything and has already dammaged an upholstered chair and a throw pillow. Questions: 1) Will he be easier to control after he...

Unusual kitty condition (respiratory problems, vomiting and more) by Harper Lee
Hello, My wife and I have had our little boy Sammy for just over two years. He was 9 months old when we adopted him, and we immediately had him tested and vaccinated for FLV. We have kept him current on all of his vaccinations since then. Yesterday morning he began showing some very odd...

Recent Injury by [email protected]
Our male indoor/outdoor, neutered cat came in yesterday evening with a raw spot near his right armpit. He licks it quite a bit. No blood, some plasma, looks like there are puncture marks from a plant, cactus? (we're in Tucson AZ) These don't look like bite marks. It seems he is making the puncture...

Bitins and ambushins by Maria Teresa Chupacabra
My kitty is about eighteen months old. She's Siamese / Himalayan, came from the shelter at about four months' of age. She bites. Not just little nips, but puncture wounds sometimes. I don't tease her, restrain her or pet her to distraction. She'll come to me, roll her head over and butt it...

"Portrait" of Princess and Smidgin - just posted a photo of my painting by MaryL
I have been taking oil painting lessons for 3 years. My idea when I started was to have something special to look forward to when I reach retirement and not become a "couch potato." I soon found that I love painting "right now." I just finished my first attempt at painting cats. I looked through...

Petromalt/Vaseline by Jerold Pearson
Many people in this group have said that Vaseline can be used instead of Petromalt for hairball control. I have two questions: Is it really safe to feel regular Vaseline petroleum jelly to cats? Will they really eat it? (I know that will vary from cat to cat, but do most cats actually eat...

About to adopt a shelter Manx by Meghan
Hi All, I have put in an application to adopt a 1 year old shelter kitty - who happens to be Manx. He has no tail whatsoever, not even a stump. I had no intentions of getting anything other than just a cat from a shelter. I have done a bit of research on this breed and am concerned. While I...
