Cats stalking large game
 

There have been some recent cat food commercials on TV showing cats
stalking/ chasing large game. Yeah, right.

Well, just such a thing played itself out in my back yard Sunday
evening: two of my cats stalked, and spooked, one of the four deer
that were grazing in my back yard - closer than I have ever seen
before (the closest was about 60 feet from the back door). I was able
to get three poor but usable pictures and I made them into a web page:

about this subject, where people living on the edge of wilderness
had deer (and other animals) chomping on the vegetation in their yard,
until a little *too much* nature, in the form of mountain lions,
appeared in the yard. They had followed the deer, but once they were
there, they began to take interest in the family pets, and eventually,
the families themselves. I don't know where "UMR" is, but if it's in
the western US, it's something to think about...

UMR = University of Missouri - Rolla

We don't have mountain lions ... or mountains either, just foothills
of the Ozarks. We do have coyotes.

My back yard is near the edge of civilization: a few miles of woods
and pastures, then a road, and one part of the Mark Twain National
Forest.

BTW, two deer were in the side and back yard tonight, but none of the
cats were interested. I was, and watched them until it got too dark
to see.

We don't have mountain lions ... or mountains either, just foothills
of the Ozarks. We do have coyotes.

Actually, they live in all kinds of terrain, so the name is a misnomer.

Here's an article about mountain lions in Missouri. I don't think you'll
