Kitten is scared of my shoes

My 6 month old tom is very scared of my sneakers
and of another pair of shoes I wear around
the house. The reason is that I stepped on
him a few times while wearing those shoes (unintentionally
of course, I wasnt aware he was at my feet),
and now he's hiding under the bed whenever I wear them.
He calms down only when I get belly-down
on the floor and talk to him face to face. And he's
fully relaxed only when I'm barefooted--so to some
extent he's scared of any shoes or boots.

He seems to think that my shoes are independent entities
from me - or something. Any idea on how I can make him
unafraid of my shoes? Thanks.

I'd guess that if you wore your shoes all the time the novelty would
wear off and the fear would eventually stop. Just be careful where you
step...
Now, how can I make my cat afraid of my toes? She loves biting them. I
have to sleep wearing sandals or ship's slippers.

Don't wear shoes in the house. I take my shoes off the moment I walk in
the door as I have several cats that tend to be underfoot.

Spray your toes with bitter apple. My cat Teddy has a foot fetish and
started in on a friend of mine that was barefoot. I sprayed her toes
with bitter apple and after one nibble he left her alone. :-)

Vino is afraid of shoes too. We've lived in Thailand for 4 of his 7
years and in Thailand you always take your shoes off before going in
the house. We got in that habit too. Especially since for shoes we
mainly wear flip flops anyway. So when we come in wearing real shoes,
he gets all freaked out and prances sideways away from us. It's very
funny actually. I don't see us doing anything about the situation
until we move away from here.

Damn little meat on the toes. It grows back at night or something.

You could leave your shoes lying around and leave tasty treats near
them so he makes a pleasant connection with them, place the treats
nearer and nearer the shoes as he gains confidence. It can take a
little time:)
