Cats and kittens
I'm on day #4 introducing two kittens to three adult (18 month old)
cats. I haven't had any catnip out so far, but I'm debating getting some out as a treat for the adults now that everybody is being friendly. Thoughts? |
Just so you know, catnip "can" loosen inhibitions of all kinds,
including aggressive impulses. In other words, don't be surprised if the rolling and rubbing devolves into some hitting and bonking. It can. Also, although there are exceptions, kittens aren't always susceptible to catnip, so they may get a little freaked by the older cats seemingly going insane right in front of their eyes. It may work out fine, just keep an eye on everyone while you do it! |

Don't know about catnip, but my introduction trick (which worked woderfully, thanks very much) was to have kitty bath in Canada night... When they're damp& shivering under a blanket together, they seem to bond. Good Luck... -- Mathew Butler to 2 kittens: Chablis & Muscat En Vino Veritas |
I wouldn't do it. My cats (eleven of them, gulp), who normally all get
along, often get into arguments when I give them catnip. And your guys are at a sensitive stage, and of different sizes. I think this is a recipe for trouble, personally. Thanks. I was leaning towards avoiding catnip while the kittens are
out, but I was hoping to find some sort of treat for the adults while the kittens are out and unfortunately catnip is the only thing that seems to get any attention. I don't blame you. My cats are like yours; they really don't go after anything with as much gusto as catnip. But the way mine act, when I let the kittens back in, they'd be little live punching bags for them. Yours might react differently. You never know. Sherry |
