You did notice that this is a *rescue* group, no?

Most of the people here are busy trying to help homeless, abandoned, and
abused cats and will not promote buying a purebred and *contributing* to
the overpopulation problem when there are millions dying for lack of
homes. There are plenty of wonderful cats in shelters that desperately
need loving homes. I suggest you go to one or two and no doubt you'll
find a lovely companion.

There are ragdolls in shelters. Go to http://www.petfinder.com - enter
your zipcode, click on breeds, then cats, then ragdolls.

For the heck of it I looked up ragdolls (only US shelters here, btw)
and you're right there are many. There were also so many tagged as
ragdolls that didn't look ANYTHING like a ragdoll, it was silly. lol
I admit though, I used to do petfinder ads for a local group here and
I took liberties when I could. Anything to get the kitty ad seen. :)

Seriously, you can find a great cat at the local shelter. We got our
current cat
at the shelter, and he's a really friendly loving pet. What we did was
browse
the various cats on the "showroom floor" and essentially "interview" them.
One cat really liked our petting him and purred when we had him in the
"get to know you" room, so we adopted him.

Mix breed cats tend to be healthier than purebreed cats, less inbreeding.

It depends a lot on the cat. If the kitten/cat is from a colony of ferals or
cats in the same area, there could be considerable inbreeding.
Also, a purebreed cat, one that's bred correctly, won't be inbred. Momma would
have excellent prenatal care and the kitten would have a healthy start in life
with all the right food, vet care, etc.
My mixed breed cats, indoor only, have lived to be 10 or 11 before falling
victim to cancer or other problems.
My purebred Balinese died three months before her 20th birthday. Her kidneys
simply gave out and it wouldn't have been a kindness to keep her going. She got
the same care, food, etc. as the mixed breeds that she was raised with that
lived half as long.
