My Cat
 

My male, neutered cat is only 8-months-old. Up until Wednesday he was very
playful and ran about the house. Yesterday morning he quit eating and
drinking and did nothing but sleep. I woke up this morning and he still had
not eaten. He usually spreads his limbs out when he sleeps. Instead of
that he started rolling up into a little ball and buried his head down
covered by his paws. I took him to the vet, and x-rays revealed he has an
enlarged spleen and enlarged liver. They are now doing bloodwork and I
won't know until tomorrow what will happen with him.

Aside from the lethargy, the only other symptoms were loss of appetite, a
low heart rate, and abdominal distress. I got the cat after the first
hurricane came through Orlando. I got him from the SPCA and they said he
was abandoned after the hurricane. Up until Thursday morning it appeared
perfectly healthy. Now 36 hours later we don't know if he will even live.
I never thought I would get depressed by a cat possibly dying, but I guess I
was wrong.

Bless you for saving this boy and giving him a forever home. I hope the
report from the vet is something treatable from which he will have a
speedy recovery. As for your feeling regarding the possibility that he
might die, we need more people in this world like you. Both your and
your kitty have my best wishes and hopes for a good outcome.

I'm so sorry. But hey, maybe he'll be okay. Let's certainly hope so! It
sounds like maybe he ate something poisonous..? Maybe some toxin got on his
paw and he licked it off while cleaning himself. If he was outside at any
time, it could be a pesixide or something similar that many use on their
lawns without thinking twice about the potential hazards/ reprecussions.
This happens more than some people think or make a connection about. Was he
outside, at all? Is he inside only?

Please keep us posted about how he's doing, and what they find out.
Let's hope for the best. Hang in there, and (try to) stay strong and
positive.

I will have the cats send healing purrs and good thoughts that htis is
something treatable. Maybe an infection. please keep us posted and hang in
there. Sometimes they can turn around. You just never know.

I'm so sorry to hear about your kitty's illness. Cats have amazing healing abilities so don't lose hope. The illness of a pet is a very frightening experience. Hope all goes well. Purrs go out to your sick kitty.

Sorry to hear about your poorly puss. Cat do go downhill fast - but they
also bounce back quickly too once diagnosed and treated.
