Lorelei's big breakthrough :)

I have been trying to lure Lorelei into my living room since shortly
after getting the wonderful cat tree, since she would pass close to the
big doorway on her way to and from the litter box, and the food and
water in the kitchen.

Well, when I decided to give her a can of Fancy Feast on Sunday (despite
her rather...fluffy...appearance) I realized that food is a powerful
motivator for a cat.

So, I have been splitting her FF in half, morning and evening, and I
gave it to her a little further into the living room, each time.

My chair at my computer is only 3 or 4 feet into the room, and I figured
if I sat quietly at the computer, and talked to her, she might get used
to the idea.

Well, on Sunday morning, I had her eating right at my feet.

And, when she was done, I picked her up, and put her in my lap, and gave
her LOTS of scritches, and stroking her chin, which she really likes.

After a good amount of attention, she expressed her desire to leave, and
she ran away.

After she finished the second half of her food Sunday night, she sat at
my feet and was cleaning her face, rather than immediately running away,
as she used to.

So I picked her up again, and talked to her and gave her plenty of
scritches, and stroked her chin again.

I stopped, and let go of her, and she sat in my lap for a good 10 or 15
seconds, before she decided she had urgent business elsewhere.

Today, I was sitting at my computer, and I felt a tapping on my arm.

Lorelei had her front paw on the arm of my chair, and was tapping me
with the other one. When she stretches out, Lorelei is a LONG cat :)

So I picked her up, and gave her her fill of attention. And she settled
down in my lap like she's been doing it for years.

Finally, she had had enough, and she wanted to get down.

But, she came back just a few minutes ago, and when she tapped on my
arm, I swiveled my chair around, and Lorelei jumped up into my lap like
she's been doing it for years.

Well...Lorelei jumped as well as she was able too, given her degree of
'fluffiness', that is :)

Lorelei has been here for 5 months, and I finally have gotten her to
overcome her fear of either the living room, or my computer, (or both).

I wonder when she will decided she wants some attention next.

I often give her scritches, and pet her, when she is on her cat tree,
where she spends almost all of her time, when she isn't sleeping with
me.

I think I will stop doing that for a day or two, and see if she'll come
and sit in my lap again :)
