Kitten is losing hair

We have just recently gotten a new kitten that came from a litter of
outdoor cats. She was fine for the first couple of days and now over
the past week she has started to lose have above her eyes and in the
middle of the top of her head. She is about 7 weeks old right now. We
contacted the person we got the kitten from and she said that some of
the other kittens had started to lose there hair but she then put them
back outside with her mother and now they are starting to grow there
hair back. Any suggestions on what might be causing this and what we
could do to cure this.

Thanks

Maybe it's ringworm. I've not yet run across a kitten from a private
party that didn't have ringworm.

Is there anything that is over the counter that we can give her?

I like to use topical Conofite cream (from the vet) for kittens with
ringworm.
It is basically the same thing used for athlete's foot (ringworm is a
fungus)
and the active ingredients are Miconazole nitrate 20mg/g. Just look
for
that ingredient in the athlete's foot fungal cream. I know that
others have
gotten it over the counter that way before. Put it on the affected
skin
2-3 times a day. It is always a good idea to have a vet take a look
though,
because it could be something other than ringworm.

A diagnosis of ringworm is made from a skin scraping that's been sent to a
laboratory, although it can also be diagnosed with a wood's lamp. Hair loss
could be a symptom of any number of possible ailments. You should not be
treating your cat for ringworm unless you know for sure that's what it is.
Mostly because you could be missing the real diagnosis. You need to take her
to a veterinarian for a bonafide diagnosis. (Ringworm is quite contagious by
the way).
