'Croc Hunter' feeds crocodile with baby (watch video!)

The argument that the Croc Hunter knew what he was doing (when he had his baby
with him during the demonstration) would work...except for one thing.....Roy
Horn knew what he was doing - worked with the animal for years - yet, look at
him now.

Wild animals are unpredictable!

These incidents also prove that even our cats are wild no matter how calm
they may seem.

They are also deceptively fast. People talk about how Irwin could have
"rescued" the kid. Ummm, one slipup and he would have already been dead.
How much do these people think it takes to kill a baby? How long?

Actually, according to experts on sal****er crocodiles, they are fairly slow
and awkward on land. I'm sure that Irwin, who has many years experience
capturing and relocating rogue crocodiles and who has hand-raised most of the
crocodiles in his zoo, was smart enough to pick the most docile, predictable
croc he has when deciding to show it to the baby. Sure, you can try to argue
that "anything can happen", but that means the same is true about any situation
at all. Someone in the audience could have pulled out a gun and shot the infant
too. I'm surprise no one is arguing that Irwin shouldn't allow zoo visitors
close to his baby--after all, they are even more unpredictable than the
crocodiles he's spent the last thirty years handling and caring for.

I don't understand what you are talking about. It hasn't been proven that the
tiger attacked Royl--Siegfried, who was in fact there at the time, stated
that's not what happened.

Actually, if Siegfried's version is accurate, the tiger did behave in a
predictable manner. When Roy fainted the tiger attempted to carry him to
safety, going offstage and returning to sit in his cage, just as he has been
trained to do. The tiger did not suddenly lunge out into the crowd, or run off
backstage, or snap at one of the other handlers--those actions would have been
out of character and unpredictable, but in fact he behaved as expected.

On camera, of course, for maximum publicity.

You know, if Irwin did this stunt on the Letterman show to promote his new Croc
Challenge show, then yes, it was done for publicity purposes. But this was done
in his own home for use on his own show. There is plenty of footage available
of similar incidents with his daughter, but for some reason the media didn't
pick up on those occasions. He includes his family in his show, probably one
reason it's popular.

Funny how other parents manage to share their world without the cameras.
And without it involving brain-dead stunts.

Nonsense. Most parents I know have tons of videotape and still pictures of
their baby's every burp. They just don't have their own television shows.

And other parents pull lots of stupid stunts with their kids. For example, when
I was at Chincoteague/Assateague Islands National Wildlife Refuge, I saw lots
of parents endangering their children (and taking photos of it, too) by
ignoring the ample signage warning that the wild ponies there are just that,
wild animals that should not be approached. Nevertheless, parents were holding
up their babies to pet the nice ponies or even offer a tidbit to eat. The
difference is that these parents were not wildlife experts as Steve Irwin is,
so they were taking far more risk.

Tigers do manage carry their young without mauling them. That's part of
why Siegfried's story is highly unlikely, but a nice try.

Again, Siegfried maintains the tiger did not maul Roy. He explained that a
tiger cub has thicker, tougher skin than does a human being. He described the
wound as "a little punch hole in the side of the neck".
Some animal experts disagree with his theory, as you apparently do, but:

(quote from CBS News):
"Those who have seen a surveillance tape of the performance agree with
Fischbacher, reports CBS News Correspondent Lee Cowan.

"The cat did not attack him, the cat picked him up," said casino developer
Steve Wynn. "There was not a speck of violence in any of this. There was no
shaking, there was no biting, there was no use of full strength. Roy's neck
would have been snapped like a twig."

The show's production manager agrees.

"It absolutely did not have a vicious appearance to it," Bob Salyer told CBS
News. "He didn't, like, grab him and shake him, it was nothing like that all.
So I could see what people thought this was part of the show, 'Wow, how does he
get out of the cat's mouth?' you know?"
*****************

Believe who you prefer to believe, but my point is that it has not been
established for certain whether or not the tiger actually mauled Roy Horn.
