Catfoods

Thanks. Is lactose harmful to cats? She doesn't have the runs nor does she
vomit.

Most cats are actually lactose intolerant and can get diarrhea and/or
vomiting from milk.

Litter box in unsuitable place....

First, thoroughly clean the area with an enzymatic cleaner. If there's
carpeting back there, you may need to remove it. Be generous with the
amount of cleaner you use--it needs to be soaked.

Next...

won't take hairball onitment

Have you tried plain petroleum jelly? Some cats like the taste of that
(and it's the main ingredient in hairball remedies).

One eye darker than the other?

Well, because her next appointment is in only a couple of weeks, to get
blood tests because she was recently put on metacam. *Vet trips stress

One eye darker than the other?

It's possible she might have a cataract in one eye. Do you have an
animal eye specialist you could call?

One cat put down and the one left behind is suffering

Yes, animals grieve and it's quite possible the Harry is missing his
companion. IMO, I would take him to the vet to rule out anything
medical. Going outside the box can be a sign of a urinary...

Human meat for cats?

So -- pros and cons of real meat or shellfish as an occasional treat?
And if okay, raw or cooked?

IMO I would stay away from any seafood. It can be an allergen and it's
not something cats would...

Question on feedint a cat to avoid cystitis

We're working on that. *Currently, she refuses wet food if it has
insufficient carbs. *Stupid carbivore g. *I've found one or two
grain-free varieties that she's shown some interest in, so...

rabies shots, 1-yr or 3-yr?

Calvin,

I didn't mean to confuse you by linking to that article. I merely
wanted to point out that there are different types of vaccines. While
there is always a risk when giving a vaccine, the...

Wet Food

There are many opinions on the 'best' wet food. I primarily feed
Wellness wet (the grain free varieties), but also like Innova Evo and
Nature's Variety (wet or raw). All are high quality, use...

rabies shots, 1-yr or 3-yr?

1) *I'm afraid, without knowing the answer, that the 3-yr shot
*causes a cat more discomfort, for a longer period of time,
*than the 1-yr shot. *Is this true?

According to this article on...

how many meals?

In my entire life, I have *never* left my cats for more than a day without
having someone check on them.

I agree with MaryL here. I would NEVER leave our cats alone for more
than 12...

My cat is "thinking outside the box"

I'm aware that some cats may dislike certain types of litter. *But that's
not the problem -- He goes inside the box when I keep him in the utility
room. *He did his duty in the box for about 2...

how many meals?

Two meals per day, about 12 hours apart. After 20 minutes or so, I
take away the plates and no food until next meal (though they are
almost always empty). I feed wet (canned and raw), NO dry.

Mixing an FIV+ cat with FIV- cats

Hi Brad,

I found this on the Little Big Cats web site (a great reference site
BTW):

Most FIV+ cats could be adopted and live with FIV-negative cats with
very little risk of transmitting the...

When 1 is a bully?

Our oldest cat, Tucker, is a bully like that. If it's something minor,
I let it go, but if he's getting on the other cats' nerves, I'll try
and distract him. I'll sweet talk him or throw a toy to...

I hope you are kidding about putting him outside. . .

I am not sure why your vet would suggest a high fiber food, unless he
thought your cat was constipated. IMO he should have a wet, grain...

Do you play with them twice per day to release some of that energy?
Use a fishing pole type of toy or laser pointer. Have a play session
right before bed to tire them out.

Do they have...

cat needs to lose weight - calorie question

Vets are selling cat food. Examine your reasons for feeding dry and you'll
see that they don't have a thing to do with your cat. You do it for
convenience and cost consideration.

You asked...
