In the seventies, I ran the computer center for the Washington Reference
Laboratories, which was the largest contractor for the military drug
screening urinalysis program. Never let it be said the Army has no sense of
humor; our contract was under Project Golden Fountain.

When we built the new analysis lab, the drug enforcement people required
several feet of concrete over the drains, as some instrument outputs had
enough drugs to be worth recovering.

We also were the contractor for the District of Columbia Narcotics Treatment
Administration. Part of our contract required that we pick up the samples at
the various clinics. Word got onto the street that the white van carried
drugs.

Well, it did, but in very dilute solution. Still, it was hijacked about once
a month. My imagination fails at the facial expression of a hijacker
discovering he has captured 4,000 bottles of aging urine.
