A stray kitten - about 4 mo. old male - has appeared at
my house. This one has some missing whiskers. His whiskers
on both sides are only about 1/4-1/2 inch long. Besides a
mischevious child with scissors, what might cause this?

Broken whiskers are *very* common in kittens. It's doubtful that they were cut
off.
