I had a nightmare the other night about a giant gray bat chasing me, and
landing on the roof of the cattery porch. In the dream, Chaucer came up behind
the bat, and whapped it a good one upside the head. Now this is not possible,
as none of our cats ever go outside. Chaucer has caught more mice than any cat
I have ever known. I wish he'd quit leaving them on my bed....

A few days later, while sitting at the computer, I saw (out of the corner of my
eye) a large shadow pass overhead. Like an idiot, I went outside a few minutes
later, to get something from the van.

The heron was in the tall grass on the slope leading to the small pond. It
took off with a great clatter of wings in the direction of the pond, and Shelby
started to scream in horror out the cattery window.

I nearly had a coronary myself. Big as a 747, it seemed to be.

ps... Lori is afraid of thunderstorms and snakes. Bax doesn't care. They both
like to watch frogs.
