The shaving may not have been cruel, but the dyeing certainly was! My
son's long-hair has to be shaved periodically because her fine hair gets
so matted. That is pretty much the way they shave Crystal, except that
they leave a ruff around her unshaved face. I call it a "lion cut".
However, there is no excuse for dyeing a cat, even if the dye is
harmless.

Yes, our persian actually always seemed to enjoy the "being shaved" part
because her hair matted so, but I see no reason for the dye at all!
