Just been there with Pirate, TJ! I realized Pirate was chowing down but not
having a lot to show for it; when he refused to eat breakfast at all I knew
something was up and I immediately took him to the vet. He apparently was
quite constipated, got a kitty enema and sub-q fluids. Apparently, the vet
told me the enema only had cleaned about 1/3 out but I went ahead and took
him home thinking he might have better luck going in the quieter environment
in our house (ha) than at the vet's. Nothing dramatic happened although he
did start eating again the next day but I was concerned so picked up some
lactulose solution at the vet's which I can definitely recommend if Dust's
plumbing doesn't start up. It doesn't taste like much so I mixed it in with
his regular canned food and I am now adding extra water to Pirate's food and
am going to suggest his new owners feed him canned food only. I also found
out you can mix in baby food winter squash into the canned food or canned
pumpkin (not the spicy pie kind). Pirate is an extremely fluffy longhaired
boy and I'm sure part of his constipation problem is due to his hair.
Dusty's a longhair, too, if I remember rightly. And having recently asked
for poop purrs for Pirate myself, I'm surely sending you out a hefty purr
quotient from here.

I gave him some petramalt and will see how it goes. He hasn't had that in

a
long time, he loves that stuff.
He is peeing like normal and has a normal (well, normal for a pig)

appetite. My
DH thinks I am nuts because everyone in my family is always so concerned

about
their bowels and the bowels of others. LOL. If you even hinted at a

stomach
ache around my grandma she would immediately suggest and enema.

The more I think about it he may be right. I just recently removed the

lid from
the box. Before that I couldn't see what his bathroom habits were and

when I
cleaned the box every 3 days or so I didn't really pay attention much.

There
was pee clumps their was poop. I scooped it out and threw it away. There

was
always more pee than poop. He has never been a big pooper in quantity or
frequency. I may just be hypersensitive to everything since he has been

having
so many problems. He is acting more like the old Dust everyday, better

then he
has in weeks.

Purrs for poop would be appreciated!

TJ - constipation and lack of appetite were the signs when Bob had the

UTI
problem both times!

I think the Dust "may" be constipated. I am not sure what qualifies

as
constipation in cats. He basically hasn't pooped in 3 days. He is

not
going to
the box and straining, he isn't complaining, he is eating and drinking

very much
so normally and he is peeing about twice a day.

We had a house full of people over the turkey day holiday and that

seems
to be
when he stopped. I also have removed the lid from his "booda-loo"

litterbox so
that he could in and out more comfortably. Since I have taken off the

lid
he
has pooped, about every other day. Could the house full of people

have
caused a
colonic traffic jam in my little man? Does he feel "exposed" in his

box
now?

He has always been a "every other day" kinda pooper but that was on

dry
food
only. For the past several weeks he has been eating a small can of

wet a
day
and grazing the dry in the same quantity that he did before the wet.

He
is
taking Norvasc for his hypertension but I went to their website and do

not
see
that it causes constipation in people so I figured not in cats

either...
He is
not uncomfortable at all. He is getting back to the old Dust in some

ways
and
his irritated eye seems to be improving greatly since I STOPPED the

eyedrops,
per TED's recommendation.

So.. am I looking at having to give the big guy a little kitty enema?
I can only think of this comic, remember this?
http://www.catenema.com/cat1.html .

I can't imagine. LOL. Any advice? Is there something I can buy at

Petsmart or
one of the holistic pet centers?
