Default Another update on Marlo's overgrooming

I made an appointment with the behavioral specialist, but that isn't
until October. Apparently cat behavior can be perplexing - who would
have guessed?

I took her to her regular vet, but there was a new vet there and she
had some interesting ideas. First, we need to get her a urine culture
just in case there is something going on there. We couldn't do it
today because she had just emptied her bladder all over me and the
examination room. She's never done that before.

More interestingly, she thinks that Marlo should be separated from the
other cats, particularly the feral, Baby. So she's now confined to her
own room for a week or so. I'll probably open up the sofa bed in that
room and sleep with her since she is the one who really sleeps with me
the most.

Also, we got rid of that hard Cone of Shame. Instead, she is wearing a
soft cloth cone that actually points the other way, back towards her
body. The vet feels that Marlo won't mind that so much and that it may
do a better job of preventing her from licking.

And she told me to get a Sentry Calming Collar. I had gotten the
Felliway diffuser, but the vet said that the diffuser is much more
effective in small rooms rather than in an open layout like most
Florida homes. The SCC is the same kind of pherenome stuff but
obviously is in constant contact with the cat and so is more
effective. It only lasts a month though and is around $18.

So there is some optimisim in the household today. Her collar is on,
she's isolated, and supposedly she won't mind being separated from the
other cats, at least as long as I spend time with her. I'm heading in
with some toys and a brush now.

Good luck to both of you. I hope this works. In the meantime, we're
all pulling for you.
