You were barely over a year old. Neither we cats nor our humans had
any idea your heart would only last so long. Not the way you climed
to the top of the screen of the back door. Not the way you played
with little Autumn Rain. Meowmie would come home from a hard day's
work, and just look at you and laugh.

The human kittens loved you too. The night you left, Collin read to
you. Kathy had given you a manicure earlier, and you had been purring
on her lap.

None of us think it is fair. We all miss you and want you back. But
we understand that life is not fair. Even human kittens leave
sometimes. We can only believe you are happy whereever you are now,
as you have made us happy.

It is easier to say goodbye to you, Sunset, because you lived a full
life and you were old and tired , but that does not mean we don't miss
you. Kathy tried to do CPR, but it was just your time. You taught us
a lot, you and your twisted tail. The vet said your bent tail was a
birth defect, but there was nothing defective about you and how you
loved us. Kathy used to tell you all her secrets, and sometimes we
swear you smiled.

Sunset, we hope you are now happily eating oatmeal while watching
Spock play with Spook.
