Default Baby gate and cat?

I assume you're talking about the ones that are like 30-36" tall? (under a
meter, if you prefer). If you are, I've got several of them in my house
to keep the dog out of certain rooms and the cats get over them just fine.

We're also in the same situation - our 7 month old is now creeping and we
expect her to start crawling soon. I've been told that cats can easily jump
a baby gate, but one of them is getting on in years and might not be able
to manage the leap. The other problem is that the floor is hardwood and
they might not be able to get enough traction for the jump.

What about leaving just enough room under the gate for the cats to crawl
through? Has anyone had success with that approach? Our baby is rather big
for her age. I figure 3.5" should be enough for the cats but hopefully too
small for the baby.

Cheers! Hans
