Default [REPOST] Candle for Misty

Jeanne,
thank you. Misty left a hole in my heart. Your kindness is very
appreciated.
We got Misty off the streets. She had been someone's outdoor cat,
and the son was still feeding her, but the people had moved out and she
was lonely. The vet estimated she was 5 to 7 years old. She had ear
mites and a yeast infection in the ears - she was NOT happy when we
treated her.
Misty was a people cat, but didn't like the other cats. Even after 11
years, and various medications (I HIGHLY recommend amitriptyline), she
only got to the point of tolerating them. She hissed a lot - even at us
- but we soon realized that it was just her language. She was gentle,
even when she was telling us to back off.
When we moved to Iowa, Misty decided I was her person. She claimed my
lap on the couch and when I was reading in bed, and my back/side when I
was sleeping. I miss her warm weight on me.
About a year ago, at about 16 years of age, we got the CRF diagnosis.
We tried treating her, including sub-q fluids, but she wanted nothing of
it. What good is putting her through things she hated, just for a month
or two more? So, we went with quality of life. She did tolerate a few
things that helped (potassium for muscle weakness, Pepcid in a pill
pocket for nausea).
About a month ago I realized she had lost more weight. She continued
to deteriorate, but was still able to get around and was enjoying life.
Carol and I agreed that two signs of the end were not eating and not
wanting to be with me. Last Saturday she stopped eating, turning her
face away when I tried to tempt her with food. Saturday night I gave
her a night with me and without the other kitties, but by 2 AM she
wanted out of the room. She went over to Carol's bed and slept there.
By Sunday morning, it was obvious that the time was near. We took her
in to the emergency vet/specialty center and held the sweet hisser as
she was helped across the Bridge.
My heart aches for the sweet hissy girl. That is the price we pay for
their love - letting them go first, and living on without them. I know
I'll see her, and my other RB kitties - when my time comes.

I realize this Repost may be considered tacky, but when I made the
original post thought changing the Subject line would start a new
thread for all news readers (mine does). I've since discovered it
doesn't, and I don't want this to be lost in all the messages of the
original thread. So, just in case some people didn't see this the
first time around, here it is again:

Rob passed away today.

Pam,
you are in my thoughts. May you find comfort in the love of your
family (furred and otherwise) and friends.
If it brings you any comfort, Rob probably has a beautiful tortie
girl kitty to take care of him. We sent our Misty across the Bridge
yesterday. I would be honored if Rob looked after her, until we can
join her.

I hadn't seen a candle group notice yet, so started one for Misty.
