I just have carriers out in the bedroom, open and ready to go in

case of
emergency and hope I can get them in in time. My biggest worry is

there is
one me and three of them. I think I need one bigger carrier that I

could
stuff two in, but I really wonder if I would have time in case of

tornado or
fire. It's a worry and I don't know that there is a great answer.

In case of a fire, if the house were already burning badly, I'd

start tossing
cats out the door, window, or any available exit. I don't think I'd

have time
to get them in carriers. They are difficult to get in their carriers

under the
best of circumstances. Tornado warnings are another story. When I

had four
cats, I put them in two carriers because that's all I could carry.

(DH is
always at work dduring any given crisis). Better to be crowded and

****ed off
than the alternative I suppose.

I was recently thinking about this during all of our bad storms and
two wouldn't be a problem to hurd into a downstairs room but Bonnie in
the big dog cage would pose a problem. I figured if we had a tornado
warning I'd move her cage into the hallway which in the interior and
no windows. Not the best plan being separated but it was the only
thing I could think of.

In my old apartment building years ago there was a fire in another
apt. in the middle of the night. I was awoken by firemen who had to
break my door down (used to be a sound sleeper until that) and there
was no time to get Marley out. Hell, there wasn't even time to get
dressed -- they made me leave the building wrapped in a sheet (used to
sleep in the nude in the summer before that, too. LOL) He hid inside
the couch during the whole thing and the firemen went in with me when
it was safe to enter the building to find him and crate him. It all
turned out well but I can imagine in that situation it could have been
bad. They had all the rear entrances open and some windows were
broken out and he could have escaped through the back of the building
but he just stayed hidden.
