He eats pretty well. Always has an appetite but eats small quantities
multiple times a day. I don't leave food out for him instead we have
set times of feeding. I'm at a loss.

I think he could have a sensitive stomach. You might think about seeing a
vet specialist if your regular vet is not a cat vet. It's not something he's
always done, so I would wonder too.
