The only thing that seems wrong with the
OPs scratching post is it appears to have
a rather small base. Unless it is heavily
weighted it would probably be tippy.

Nope, not at all (maybe you didn't see the cat hanging off of the side
of it in the photo?) I've watched my cats climb up the side and to the
top and it doesn't tip at all.
