I've gone to both bestbuy.com and tigerdirect.com, and the W8 PCs are cheaper than the W7's. What does that tell you? BTW, did you buy a laptop or desktop? I've heard that if you buy a system with W8 on it, you CAN downgrade to W7 using the same serial number. And the majority of people claiming that W8.1 is better than W8 are usually reviewer who seem to have a vested interest, not regular users. MS will always let you downgrade but they won't provide the media. So if you can get your hands on an ISO or installation package, yes, you can downgrade. Media? The CD containing the Windows 7 operating system. Jill |

Seems like Dell and Toshiba still have them available. Obviously I don't know your budget. Jill |

I've gone to both bestbuy.com and tigerdirect.com, and the W8 PCs are cheaper than the W7's. What does that tell you? BTW, did you buy a laptop or desktop? I've been looking at both. I've also been looking at W8 computers. I heard that Microsoft has made W8.1 available as a free upgrade, because (I assume) so many people complained about W8. I don't have any loyalty to W7 because I've never used it - I've just heard that W8 is terrible. Apparently W8.1 is a return to the W7 user interface.. I've used XP for several years, and befoer that, Windows 2000. I'm really old-school. What did you pay, if you don't mind saying, for your Acer? Thanks! Sorry, just saw your ping. It was at Canada Computing, a local computer store, not big box stores. I think they were selling off old stock, but it was a new desktop, fully loaded. I paid Canadian $459 (which in the US would be $100 less). Bobble |

Never mind the loss of privacy involved in posting personal info where literally ANYONE can read it!) I have a Facebook account, but I created it and strive to learn how to use it primarily so I could run a page for the garage where I work part-time. it helps. However, the only thing on my Facebook page is my name. No school, no workplace, no birthdate, no hometown, no picture of me. Nothing. I have no great desire to look anyone up from my past, especially high school.. I want nothing to do with those people. I had few friends in college, since I went there to earn a degree, not to socialize. My goal was to 1)get a degree and 2) get a better job. I was successful there. The fact that there is such a group as "Facecrooks" isn't exactly a ringing endorsement. Facecrooks actually handles email scams, internet hoaxes, and FB hoaxes. It isn't just about FB. I thought I'd hate it, and at first I did. Now that I've learned to set my privacy where *I* want it, and I'm careful about liking pages and stuff (which I always was), I like it. I actually find it easier than regular email now (but I understand not wanting to join), but since most of my email friends went on FB, it just became easier for me (oh, and I never respond to any FB request that comes to my email account). Smokie Darling (Annie) I have gotten to know cousins that I never really saw often while growing up because we don't live anywhere near each other. We are great friends on FB and its as if we grew up together. I'm a big fan of FB for getting to know/reconnect with people who are far away. -- CAPSLOCK–Preventing Login Since 1980. |
